How can I bypass the new Update on Sony e900

I have the Sony e900 and I have hear that there are several issues with the latest update..... I bought the tv during Black Friday and I did the google assistant update for it and then I moved it to my family room two weeks ago but I haven’t plugged it back in and restarted the tv up again....

My question is when I go to plug in the tv and it restarts will I have to set up the tv like New and redo the Latest Update or is there a way I can bypass doing the latest update and keep the tv the way it was when I unplugged it? Basically I’m wondering if when you unplug a Sony tv will that erase everything and then set it back to factory settings or is the settings saved. I’m didn’t do any hard reset or factory reset all I did was just unplugged the tv and that is it.

Hopefully I made sense. I’m just trying to plug in the tv and restart it back up but not have to do the latest update.

Re: How can I bypass the new Update on Sony e900

Factory/Hard resets do nothing. The TV is useable, but the loud screeching will make you want to use another TV. If you haven't fully updated DON'T. DO NOT UPDATE YOUR TV.

If you already hit update, and the TV did its thing... I'm about to start compiling a list of names for a class action lawsuit so look for the thread to add your name.

I spent time on the Chat with Sony Support and they said Engineering is working on it. But no idea when. Class action would be great.

We I’m going to restart the TV up again. I should call Sony and have them walk me through it to make sure I don’t accidentally update it when I restart it. Because the issues you guys are having sounds terrible. Note to self- Never do updates front sony for at least a month after it comes out apparently

Thanks!!!! I didn’t Do the Update and have no intention of doing so until Sony comes out with a fix....and I made sure Auto Updates is OFF...... In the future it sounds like it is best to make sure we wait a month before updating.

As long as the TV isn't connected to the internet, you shouldn't get the prompt for the update. However, it's worth noting that a few of us have already found workarounds that restore 4K/HDR functionality. I have a 900e and can confirm that they work with minimal interruption or other difficulties.

Re: How can I bypass the new Update on Sony e900

I would think that Sony would nuke a post here for a class action suit.
It would just be better if they did not forward, and forward again to the folks who actually build and design the TV's.
Actual technical engineers to speak with (instead of Simi with a degree in Information Technology who has never picked up a soldering iron or written a line of code) WOULD ease our higher level technical problems.
The latest update isn't even available for Internet download, but can be performed with USB.
That tells me that those who choose to do it are basically "Guinea Pigs"....for Sony.
So, WTF?

They probably don't care about the risk of a class action, because that risk doesn't exist. There are legal requirements for a class action, and a faulty update is more than likely not one of them. I'd have to reread the manual, but if Sony is anything like other tech companies out there, they likely have something in the user agreement that prevents lawsuits for things like this. Frankly, it's a waste of time to even consider it.
