Re: NO 4K streaming on VUDU!?!?

At

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202915

Apple says:

  • If you buy a movie in 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision, you can watch the higher quality versions through iTunes and some reciprocal services.
  •

So at least some other service must handle 4k portability.   They reference moviesanywhere.com for more information but you can't find much without a login.

Re: NO 4K streaming on VUDU!?!?

[ Edited ]

VUDU just announced HDR10 support for nearly all the devices they support.  Of course Sony TVs aren’t on that list as they don’t even support 4K let alone HDR.

My XBR55X930E supports 4K and HDR10, but the preinstalled VUDU app is HD only.  No reason why that is considering Netflix and Amazon support both HDR and 4K.

Re: NO 4K streaming on VUDU!?!?

Just ******. Vudu is my only digital collection, and it's ridiculous in this day and age that Sony and Vudu can't get tigether to deliver a 4k service like they have done with LG, Vizio and virtually every other big name brand.

Re: NO 4K streaming on VUDU!?!?

Has anyone gotten 4k movies to work across services through Movies Anywhere?  And does the app itself handle 4k/hdr or would you play in Amazon's app?

Supposedly 4K does work across MA, but considering Amazon's list of 4K movies can be counted on your fingers and Google Play doesn’t seem to support 4K at all, that’s not really a solution.  The MA app doesn’t support 4K.

Re: NO 4K streaming on VUDU!?!?

I asked an HDR question over at the Vudu forums and Jake, one of the Vudu engineers replied that 2017+ Sony TVs would be getting an updated Vudu app that supports 4K and HDR with the TV update that adds Dolby Vision.

Vudu UHD in general as a feature is tied to the next Sony firmware update. In fact, it will be updated to a true Android TV app (as has been launched on the Nvidia Shield, etc already), so you will see some UI/feature changes along with it.

If that’s to be believed we wil, be getting 4K Vudu with the next update.

Amazon actually has a bunch of movies and shows: https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/storefront/?ie=UTF8&merchId=uhd. There are others, like The Expanse, that are only available through a browser link, but which can be played from any 4K-ready device once you add them to your library.

Google Play also has a ton of 4K movies. Since I hooked everything into my Movies Anywhere account, I can actually watch everything I've bought in 4K from them, or from Sony's 4K service, right in YouTube. I've even had some titles that I only had in HD from a Blu-Ray's UV code, like Pacific Rim and The LEGO Movie, automatically upgraded to 4K. I'd wager that if I ever get around to inputting the UV codes from the 4K discs I've purchased, they'll show up in 4K as well across my connected services.

Re: NO 4K streaming on VUDU!?!?

MA doesn't support 4K yet, but once you hook in your other accounts you can access your VUDU library elsewhere. I can get my VUDU movies through Google Play - both ones I've redeemed the UV code on and ones I've done disc-to-digital. I even had a couple movies automatically upgraded from HD (redeemed via UV from a Blu-Ray) to 4K.

Re: NO 4K streaming on VUDU!?!?

Does anyone know how MA sub-accounts work?  Can they be connected to work with other services too?

I've seen on some other forums that accounts that were linked in Vudu started out also being shared in MA but later that stopped working.    But my question isn't about sharing content that is already split across accounts - just whether an MA sub-account can be connected to someone else's other services to use their players.

The Google Play app on the TV itself doesn't appear to support 4K at all.  At least there's no indication that it does.  I haven't tried watching through YouTube.
