4. Connect only Digital Audio output from TV to Audio Receiver
Problem with Dolby Digital Signal:
The TV does not send a Dolby Digital signal to the audio receiver when playing DVDs on the Play Station.
The TV does send a Dolby Digital signal to the audio receiver when: a) watching satellite programs, b) watching broadcasts, c) watching Netflix programs running as an application on the TV, and d) watching Netflix programs running on the Play Station!
Are you sure the audio being sent is actually dolby digital 5.1? That is, the PS3 is configured to send it, and the source is actually 5.1, not tru-hd or one of the more advanced blu-ray formats? The optical and ARC connections from the tv to the audio receiver cannot handle the newer formats.
Solved. I thought i had already tested this setting: In PS-3 Settings under the Video, I set the Audio output for HDMI to Bitstream in lieu of PCM. I also changed it for the Digital Audion output as well. Now I am getting full surround sound when playing DVD's.
The Bravia 4K TV has relegated my A/V receiver to an Audio receiver only. All sources are connected to the TV. The only connection to the receiver is the digital audio cable from the TV.
