Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

I may be a bit late but my 850d would do those but it had an option for sreen selection for HDR. (Like cinema home, pro, vivid) Once i put it on HDR selection, it did the job.

hi all, i agree with the latest posts , HDR on sony tvs  just dull and life less, i bought a lg uh850v , thought id compare both tvs , holy s ,  nite and day difference , could easily tell the colour difference, HDR on the  lg has way more pop and image is a lot sharper  and everything thats ment to shine, shines nice n bright , this lg is peanuts compared to what i paid for the sony, NOT HAPPY AT ALL , its like the sony is only  using half the colour gamut ( in HDR video mode)  that is normally available , heck resetting to vivid does virtually nothing either, an SDR picture is not ment to look better than a HDR picture , hopefully hdr is fixed with android nougat!!

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

Has anyone tried Sony's Z9D? Thinking about buying it as all reviewers say it's the best tv for HDR on the market, but if it has any ressemblance of this issue then I'm totally off. But I guess it shouldn't have the issue, as I've never seen anyone mention it, and reviewers would not praise it as being one of the top HDR tvs if it had issues like this...

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

i tested one in store, its all sony TVS unless its specifically been fixed on some sets and not others, but i doubt that, at the store insist on testing netflix, login on any sony and start a title, before the title starts when HDR kicks in you see the screen go slightly grey on the black netflix logo before the video starts, this is the problem, its ALL HDR content, some sample files like Sony Camp, LG Chess, dont seem to do it, but Xbox one, UHD discs, amazon, netflix etc etc all have this same issue. pic any other brand TV and do the same test, the difference is so clear, you wont buy a Sony, before everyone starts about how HDR isnt supposed to look fake and colors arent supposed to POP like on Samsungs and LGs etc etc.. this isnt the issue, the issue is Black and white is being clipped hard, blacks becomes greys, and whites becomes greys wrecking the whole experience, at this point id be happiest with a HDR toggle in the menu so i can watch stuff without HDR... titiles like Marco Polo on netflix are unwatchable as dark scenes are just dulled right out too dark to make any detail out and it ruins the whole experience. One this is for certain, ill never spend another 2000$ on a Sony set, and i make sure to make sure anyone who mentions TV shopping, that they steer really clear of Sony TV's

Well, my TV is updating right now. All I could find on it was that it "improved TV performance". Whatever that means.

850D on 6.0.1.  HDR is still all washed out.  And Software v. PKG3.915NAB.  When is this supposed to be fixed?  7.0?

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

That's too bad guys. My tv looks great. I even noticed the update reset my color down and I didn't notice. Before on HDR I had to have the color cranked up to like 80-90 to look good. Now its back down to 50. If I go back up that much you can really tell the color saturation gets out of control.

Try adjusting your settings (which I'm sure you all have).

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

I have the XBR65X930C and I’ve been hoping they’d fix this issue for over a year when the PS4 Pro released. There’s a trick for it to work for the Pro but it has to be done everytime I start-up a game.

For Netflix apps, Apple TV 4K, and any built-in apps that are supposed to have HDR, it’s always washed out and dull.

At least it appears plenty of intelligent people are aware now and it’s not just the seemingly obnoxious morons saying it’s working properly or I’m doing something wrong.

I will never buy a Sony TV again. $3k and multiple issues, one exchanged set because the power went out after 30 days and I get a f***ing Certified replacement from Sony that has ‘light blotches/bleed’ or whatever it’s consideeed on random dark screens but it’s working as intended according to them so no other exchange. Been two years and nothing fixed...it’s absolutely firmware. Changing display settings, HDMI cables, inputs, formats, firmware updates, factory resets, blah blah blah doesn’t do jack s***.

I wish I had the time, effort, and capability to turn it into a lawsuit, but I simply don’t at this point in time. This set simply won’t work as intended with HDR. Anyone who argues that it does, doesn’t know wtf we’re talking about.
