Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

Enjoy the input lag. The current 850c is terrible

We are talking about image quality, not input lag.

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

[ Edited ]

The Shadow Warrior team developers wrote this about HDR...I now understand why i'm so mitigated about the PQ:

Some things in our game look awesome in HDR display, but some don’t look so good. Most issues are caused by “artistic” lighting setups, which were carefully tuned for the LDR tone mapping curve. E.g. in some places sunlight is nicely “burned” in when viewed on LDR display, but on the HDR display looks washed out, as lighting isn’t bright enough. Unfortunately, this is something that can’t be fixed last minute and something to think about when we will be creating content for the next game.

Also the game is only 8 bits, and not full 10bits,

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

Hey @my_name_is I've tried the show Hibana Sparks

On hdr mode on episode 1 the scene when they're doing a play with the woman in the
Red kimono is a perfect example of the washed out look

When hdr is off the kimono looks red with hdr on it looks like a washed out maroon almost

On vivid mode it looks vivid and vibrant red , on standard it looks just red
On hdr it looks as if the color settings were lowered even though they aren't and the
Screen in general looks dimmer.

X850c either have an hdr bug that makes it not work properly or it just generates hdr horribly.
So far I'm very disappointed with this set and probably going to be selling my tv

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

How were you able to switch from HDR to Vivid ?

You can't change picture mode when an HDR file is played.

You mean by resetting HDR to HDR vivid ?

Anyway, I have the 850D, not the C, can't compare, sorry.

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

I'm able to view hdr off content on the Xbox one S by putting hdr off on the settings so then the tv won't go into hdr mode

On the tvs native app on a show like hibana spark it'll automatically go into that mode you're right .

The 850D model you have is made with hdr components inside already in the hardware allowing for an even richer hdr content then the 850C and I'm aware of that but I still don't
Think the HDR content on the 850c should be more washed out then even a standard picture mode

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

Got off the phone with a Sony Rep , he says they're aware of the issue and are working on a firmware update that can come out anywhere from November to December. I really hope a firmware fixes this problem, because if it doesn't this tv is going to be sold for sure

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

I have the Sony KD-55X8509C and getting a similar washed out look to things.

I have played with the settings and got a resonable picture for Gears of War 4 (Xbox One S) but not happy as it should be much better.

Hoping the new firmware does some good for all the older TV's.

Re: Sony XBR55X850C hdr washed out colors

Have anyone with a video game HDR tried to reduce in game gamma.

For exemple for shadow warrior, at gamma value of 1 the colors are horrible. But if I put the gamma at 0.70, the game look gorgeous.

X850D TV, maybe C user could try that
