Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

[ Edited ]

Yeah. It's such a shame. I was watches CES where their president or whoever it was just kept going on and on about Sony's committment to customers and makign the best products and this and that and I was just sitting there with deadpan face trying to figure out why that commitment and quality isn't being seen here.

Every time you call the outsourced support "never heard of" the issue, run you in circles, and do everythign in their power to avoid doing anything at all for you.

This thread, plus others, is on their own site. They're clearly turning a blind eye. Which makes me sad. I want to upgrade to a 70+ size tv and with plasmas out of the picture I have no clear direction to turn - all I know is sadly, its certainly not going to be a Sony product.

Edit: you know what else, for those out there saying 'well duh, just dont use wifi, use ethernet, problem solved.'  ....well yeah. And I've run eithernet. And that solved it. Then an update broke every app and eithernet, so now I'm using a roku with its wifil, and everything is awesome. Roke has better apps, is way more stable, and the wifi works.

But that's not what its about. Its about principle. What about when the ethernet port dies on the tv, or the Roke or HDMI port breaks? Well, they didn't fix my wifi during the warrantee period like they should have (and believe me I've tried harder than anyone!) so once that happens I won't have wifi to fall back on.

It's principle. The outright refuse to stand behind their product, which is kinda  a bit of a turn off for me.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

I don't think it is a hardware issue but a software issue.  If it was a hardware issue, then going back through the WiFi setup wouldn't work.  Plus I have total visibility into my network (IT professional and used to work for my ISP on the labs side of things) and have knowledge of how to get in and poke around.  My TV isn't even trying to connect to WiFi at all.  Run the setup again and it will.  It also does not like hidden SSID's during setup; once again it doesn't even try to connect.  I'm not willing to break the sniffer out and see if anything is actually coming out of the TV during this time at all.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

You'd think it would be an even easier/cheaper fix for Sony then.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

I have been  having the exact same problem with the WiFi for the last couple of weeks (KDL50W805c), it used to work OK prior to what I remember was an update to the TV's firmware/software.

Now the WiFi is completely broken, it disconnects and reconnects every 10 seconds (notifications pop-up constantly while i'm watching normal TV - so ANNOYING!).

This is unacceptable - I will try the solution with the SlingTV - see how I can deactivate it or uninstall it if possible. But this is clearly a problem introduced by Sony's latest software update - nothing has changed in my environment since I've bought the TV but the problem has been introduced only lately.

I do know that there is an update that should be out in the very near future.  If this fixes the WiFi issues, that is not known.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

I have the same issue with Sony Bravia and WIFI. I can watch netflix, the broadcast stops then the download progress climbs to 25% and stops.

What works for me most of the time is to go to Network Settings in Sony TV and then turn off Wi-Fi and turn on again. Then I would check Internet connection and it would be good. It works most of the time. On rare occasions it would not work or would work only for a short time.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

I had this problem too!! And I always knew it was the TV's problem. Every time when it stops at 25% on my TV I immediately use Netflix on my Apple TV or my iPhone. There's never a connection issue streaming on Apple TV or iPhone. I read all the discussion here knowing this issue will never get resolved and now I'm desperate. Sony has always been my favorite electronic brand. My family's been using Sony TV and laptops all the time. Products from Sony is pricey but also with high qualities. I don't have too many budget on electronics. But I rather save money to buy Sony products than settled for other brands. I purchased this Sony TV with pride that I'm a Sony fan despite Samsung's cheaper and fancier. I'm still using a Sony Vaio and refuse to buy a new laptop since Sony is no longer in the business. I always believed Sony means the best. But now, Xperia is nowhere near iPhone, Vaio is not a Sony product anymore, even Bravia is having this obvious problem and nobody in Sony even cares. Look at Apple's service! Sony should be ashamed. I'm just sad. I guess I'll buy a Ethernet cable and stop using wifi. I compromised. Maybe next time I'll compromise my pride as a loyal Sony fan and buy a Surface Pro 4. I'm just disappointed and sad.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

I ran a cat5 wire and get much better speed. Connects instant. Never drops. No Buffering. 4K plays.

Super happy.

Try testing the wireless vs wired connection using the Netflix app.

Start Netflix, arrow up and find the gear picture, select the gear, Get Help, Check your Network.
I get way more speed with the wire, actually a little what more than my internet provider says is my plan.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING- Solution

Here's what to do :

1. Log into router on home network
2. Hopefully you have a dual frequency router which has a 2.4 and 5 ghz frequency
3. Give the Ssid for 5 ghz frequency a different name to the 2.4ghz frequency
4. Connect tv to the new 5 ghz frequency- this worked for me

The problem seems to be the interruptions on the 2.4ghz frequency
