Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

So here we are 8 pages into this thread on the Sony support site and not a single peep from Sony about a plan to resolve this defect issue with their product.  Love my TV otherwise, but this is the absolute worst in customer service.  It's clear that it's the wifi hardware or software in the TV, but where is the corporate ownership of this issue???????

Any moderators or anybody else at Sony here that can forward this issue to corporate?

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

It's 2016 and Sony still refuses to acknowledge the issue. From a support chat this morning:

Riley (C84W): 12:08:17 PM
We do not have any issue regarding your concern from customers.
Riley (C84W): 12:08:42 PM
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will work on the details you have provided. We will forward the details to concern department.

After this I asked to speak to a manager at which point they disconnected my chat session.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

Yep I talked to them several times for hours, and each time they claimed they never heard of the issue. I ask them if they've ever bothered to glance in their own website forums. Emailed them links.

They don't care.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

Thanks all for the replies to my original post. Anyone found a solution? Mine was fine for a while once I assigned a static IP, but now is back to the same. Plus last night it dropped and took me an hour of resets, power cycles, and chanting "the power of Christ compells you" Smiley Happy (lol). So.. seems like it's getting worse. Getting ready to just run a RJ45 cable.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

Hey, this is my thread. Get your own!!! Smiley Happy

Just kidding of course, but it amazes me that Sony still has not even posted a single response in this whole thread to take ownership of the issue...

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

[ Edited ]

Here's my take on it. When the TV goes to sleep it puts individual components to sleep as well by powering them off, like the wifi card/chip. When the TV wakes up it is not correctly waking the wifi. The various forums and posts from people all point to some sort of re-initialization in order to get it working again. For instance, changing it from dhcp to a static IP, changing the static to a different static, resetting the TV and going through the initial setup, etc. All of these methods are essentially making a call to the driver that initializes the device or powers it on fully. Also, this is specific to wifi -- as many have mentioned a wired connection to the ethernet does not fall vicitim to the same problem as the wifi.

In a normal Android device you would simply go to the advanced settings and check "keep wifi powered on when device enters sleep mode." There doesn't appear to be an option for that with the Sony Android implementation. Considering the full Android OS is in there somewhere and that apps can be sideloaded and other launchers exist for installing practically any Android apk, I wonder if that setting isn't accessible somehow. I will give it one last attempt tonight. If I find a way to access that setting I will post my results back here. Otherwise, this TV goes back to the store.

I think it's unlikely that I will find that setting or if I do that it will actually fix the issue. If it was something that an update or change in code could fix easily Sony, despite ****** at customer service, would have already implemented a fix. The more likely reason is that many of the units shipped with faulty wifi. I imagine that the wifi is integrated into the TV's motherboard, which for Sony would mean replacing motherboards on all affected TVs. Not wanting to do that, we consumer's are left with the stone wall of Sony silence instead.

ITesus - I don't think it's a loading the driver issue. It will work fine for an hour, then all of a suddent in the middle of streaming a movie, it tries to reconnect, and can't.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

Here's a workaround.  Not perfect, but it works.  We JUST bought this TV, and have this problem.  Fortunately, we bought from Best Buy, and then went back and bought Geek Squad service.  But that's beside the point.

The solution that works is a hardwire ethernet connection.  Best Buy GAVE us a Powerline adapter kit ($50), and it solves the problem.  Just plug it into the wall near your router, and in the wall near the TV.  Plug the ethernet line into the router, another into the TV.  Ideally, I'd prefer a wired connection anyway.  But this works like a champ - at least it has for 2 days.   Just thought I'd let y'all know.  Ideally, Sony would pony up for this "fix"...
