Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

Sony KD-65X8509C
When i first bought this TV i thought it was a little temperamental.  It needed turning off and on a few times because of freezes and just not doing what the button pushes wanted it to do ..
This is a 4K TV .. and the 4k image on Netflix and my PC Via a 3M 18GBPS 4K HDMI 2.0 is lovely.. (HDMI 2.0 over 3M would not allow Deep Colour or RGB 60Hz @ 4K) and in greater length ..  just no picture at all..  Had to move my PC closer..Be aware of that fact as the 4K HDMI 2.0 cables advertised on amazon over 3m will not work and the majority of reviews and write ups do not say this ..
I bought this TV on November 11th. 2015 Like i said a little temperamental.. Worth putting up with the bad for the quality of the picture/Screen size .
However on the 2nd February 2016 Sony rolled out yet another update .. (they take approx 30 Minutes to install) it killed the WiFi receiver in the TV .. Now it just drops out when it feels like it.. Many calls to Sony pointing them to the issue AND to the Sony forum with to date  9 pages of people complaining of the same thing and still no fix.  Not even a acceptance of the issue been caused by them.. Its a London phone number for me to contact support and as far as the rep is concerned i need to call it  as my TV is broken. But i also have to pay for the privilege after Sony's update broke it.. Business users get a 00800 Number ..Consumers do not.
Here's a few other things.. Be prepared to factory reset a lot (Takes approx 40 Mins) .. Be prepared to re-tune the satellite (takes approx 35 Mins) Be prepared to Re-Change all the settings back to your personal preffs on EVERY channel. after a factory reset (takes approx 2 Hrs) 4xhdmi 1 x apps 1 x scart 1 x component 1x sat..  nightmare. Why they don't just have the ability to flick a button and add all your settings Colour Brightness Contrast etc.. to each Channel in one go is beyond me.. Also if you enable You View within the settings it wipes out your Saved Sat settings/Scan list.
O yeah and when i called Sony to explain about the WiFi error dropping out every day since the update they rolled out. They said Quote "Have you tried factory default setting it?  Can you do that and then call us back?"  Check google - Sony Bravia WiFi broken..  Read the forums. Do not take my word on it ..
I am a Sony fan boy. I have 2x PS4's.  A Vita. A £600 Phone. A PS3.  Now a £2000 TV i dislike.. Sony support have a bad attitude and have killed my love of the brand.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

I don't know if this will help anyone, and perhaps at the end of the day my issue is just not the same one you guys have, but I figured mine out.

I had the 49" and after it began having strange wifi issues I returned it and upgraded to a 55". The 55" had the same issues, brand new, out of the box. I almost returned it as well when I realized what the issue actually was. In my case, the culprit was the SlingTV app.

I noticed that whenever I didn't take steps to actually exit the application before putting the TV to sleep the only application that would have wifi connectivity when the TV woke up would be Sling. All of the other content recommendations at the top wouldn't load, Netflix wouldn't load, all would show an error or message about no network connectivity. Conversly, if I took the time to exit the app (rather than just hitting the home button or leaving it open) and then put the TV to sleep, the TV would wake up and everything would have network except SlingTV. To get Sling to work after that a full restart of the TV would be necessary.

I have since cancelled SlingTV (because I only use it for Monday Night Football), and deleted the app from my TV. I haven't had a single issue with the TV since.

Hope this helps a couple of you.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

I`ve had this set now for 2 weeks...great..until tonight...WIFI ket dropping. All other gadgets in house connecting fine.

Tried resetting everything to no avail.

I thought, ring Sony UK in the morning.

One last option ..My Plugged network. So , i disconnected the cable from the plug network to my Panasonic player and stuck it in the LAN socket of my Sony...Bingo....

Here`s the weird bit..i disconnected plug from Sony TV, whilst viewing a Youtube vid and ...it still worked on wifi (Youtube).

I switched television of and on and wifi still works....Strange one....

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

Hi,
I have the 55w805c and recently following the latest firmware update found that the wifi connection kept dropping then reconnecting every 10 seconds or so. You could actually watch the wifi symbol changing from full signal to a question mark and back.

Not wanting to hardwire the TV I followed my friends advice and simply went to settings and reset the TV. Frustrating as this was I was fortunate not to have many apps installed. In reality it took no more than half hour to reset, retune etc and lo and behold it now works fine again. Just need to play with the colour settings again for each app/hdmi device. I use the same setting for all with only a slight change from factory default on custom. Happy to share if anyone is interested.

Hope this helps and fingers crossed it stays ok!

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

[ Edited ]

I just happened upon this problem myself for the first time. I've never experienced losing my wifi connection earlier. I was casting from my computer to my Sony Bravia X850C when all of a sudden, the tv told me to check my connection. I've had no problem with my connection previously, and my computer is still online. I've tried to reconnect to my wifi numerous times, and in the beginning the tv did connect, but I was still not online even though it said I was connected. Then, the tv didn't accept the password to my wifi, even though I checked and re-entered it 6 times. Now, when I try to connect to my network - that the tv finds when I search for networks - it says that it can't find my network.

I was hoping that this was a temporary thing, but when I see the posts in here, it seems like a real bug and hopefully Sony will release an update soon. I don't know how I will be able to update the tv though, with it not being online...

I haven't tried to reset the tv since I don't have the patience for it right now, but I guess that's my next step.

It's a pity that this problem should turn up now. I just bought my tv 2 months ago and the whole Android tv/google cast thing was one big reason for me choosing the Sony Bravia.

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

I have the same issue.  The TV doesn't even try to use WiFi at all and at times the TV turns Bluetooth off as well, so the BT Sony remote doesn't work at all.  Resetting the TV sure fixes it until it decides to turn BT off again and no longer even try to access the WiFi network.  If I try to enable BT I get an error that states "Unable to tun Bluetooth on due to an error".  Most devices have the WiFi (WLAN) and BT function on a single chip if not integrated into the CPU.  BT and WiFi both use the 2.4GHz band but WiFi can also use 5GHz.  So given that there is a WiFi issue and a BT issue in my case, this clearly points to an issue with the TV.  BT has nothing to do with an ISP at all.

This is an Android powered device and I have they other Android devices have no issues at all.  This is also not a speed issue as I have 1Gbps up/down and the last speedtest I did maxed my firewall wall out when it hit 625Mbps up and down.  They can all connect just fine.

So what does work using the same WiFi gear consistently:

One Android powered tablet

Two Android powered phone

Three MacBook Pro's

One Sony PS3 (sitting right below the above mentioned TV)

One company laptop

One Skydrop sprinkler controller

One Nest

Two Nest Protects

When my parents visit, add two more MacBook Pro's and two more Android phones to the list.

What doesn't work consistently:

One Sony TV

I wonder where the problem is...........

UPnP is also not the culprit as my firewall or wireless "router" does not support UPnP at all.

To the others that have the WiFi issue, does your BT remote still continue to work?  Also, is your WiFi SSID set to hidden?

Re: TV WIFI CONNECTION KEEPS DROPPING

It's clearly the hardware insiude the TV.  I just don't understand why Sony doesn't care enough about customer loyalty to take owenership of this issue.  It's probably just not worth the money to develop the fix in the short term, but I won't buy another Sony product, which will cost them more in the long term.
