XBR-43X800D - How can I play 4k video to my 4k TV using WD(Western Digital) Hard Drive?

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I have an XBR-43X800D TV and want to watch 4k movies on it.
I have a collection of 4k movies with me in a WD (Western Digital) hard drive which has a USB cable.
The Movies with 1080p works smoothly but when I play the 4k movies it starts buffering (in VLC media player, MX Player, etc)

So what's the solution for this?
Should I buy an HDMI cable that goes from Hard Drive to TV?

OR, Should I download an app from google play that can play the content smoothly(Please suggest the name if any)

OR, Is there any other alternative by which I can play the movies with the hard drive?

OR there is no way to play those movies with the hard drive and I have to buy a 4K Ultra HD Media Player?

Please Suggest.

I don't know the specific model TV you have, but VLC doesn't play 4K on mine either.

It has an inbuilt app, called videos, which is a red icon. That plays the 4K movies I have. An alternative is to download the free Kodi App, which also plays 4K.

I don't know what file type your films are in? I've not encountered a problem playing the ones so have, although I've not tried Bluray disk images.

I know my cheapish Chinese Android TV-Box plays them, as I've seen it in the specs. Even if the file format you have the film's stores in is incompatible the separate android TV-box is the cheapest solution I can think of.

Awesome!

ps. Kodi can be controlled by phone and it is more reliable than the Sony App. It just needs to be enabled in settings.

May I ask, could you connect your western digital external hard drive to your tv?

Hi, I got the notification of your message, so maybe ajesh095 didn't.

I do not have this harddrive though may be able to make one suggestion though. What format is the drive in? I, with the lollipop OS, found NTFS to be flakey. Reformatted as exfat and problem sorted. There is also fat32, which works well, but has a 4GB file limit. In exfat there is no limit and it can be read/written on by both PC and Macs.

I'm planning to get WD 1tb external hard drive soon, but I not sure if this tv can support 1tb of external hard drive or not.

It should be no problem if formatted to fat32?

Fat 32 has a file limit of 4GB, which is less than many films.

I use them newer exFAT. The big negative I can see, when compared to NTFS, is the lack of built-in encryption, but that isn't relevant for this I think.
