Re: XBR-65X930D faulty 3D

At this point I'm considering getting an LG C6, as it may be my last opportunity to get a good working 3DTV. Really sad that manufacturers apparently think people don't care about 3D, when in the forums I can see that's very clearly not true.

Re: XBR-65X930D faulty 3D

SInce this thread has been going on for a year and the issue persists, it's doubtful Sony will ever do anything about it, but here goes anyway ...

I recently ( 4 days ago) had delivered a new (unused) one of this model TV, manufactured Nov 2016. I already have a Samsung 3DTV that works perfectly but it's a few years old and I wanted to be prepared for 4K. I refused to purchase a 4K TV that didn't have 3D (I have a fairly large 3D library) so when I saw this model with 4K, HDR, and 3D, and the Sony name, I thought it would be the one to get. I apparently didn't do enough research.

I'm using the same player (PS3), cables, etc that worked perfectly with the Samsung, and I was disappointed to notice that I was getting double images on the 3D Blu Ray menus and that while the main picture was good in 3D, as stated here some parts of foreground and background had the double images. The TV does seem to have an excellent picture showing normal cable video, but I bought it to extend the life of my 3D library for a few more years and still have the advantages of 4K, and that sounds like it's not going to work out.

If anyone from Sony actually reads these threads, I just want to say I'm very disappointed. I'd thought Sony was a quality brand, but apparently I was mistaken. I haven't yet played a 4K disc (need to set up a 4K player) to see how that looks, but for this newer model TV to have poorer 3D performance than a 5 year old Samsung is borderline unforgivable.

I'm waiting for the solution too, but it seems not any hope

Re: XBR-65X930D faulty 3D

it is to bad that people come here after they buy this tv..........i highly recommend to NOT BUY THIS TV.......this tv SUX.........after the update it randomly reboots itself, while not from tv mode, but from switching from one mode to another, like i use my computer, then when i switch to watching regular tv, after a coule seconds, the tv reboots itself, so effin frustrating.

as for 4K, get the Mad Max Fury Road, best 4K movie, the desert scenes are incredible

i have switched to watching 3D on my Sony Playstation Virtual Reality headset, and it is awesome, no ghosting, incredible 3D

Re: XBR-65X930D faulty 3D

I did end up buying the LG C6 because the 3D was so bad on the 930d with no signs of being fixed. The 3D on the C6 is amazing.

That's awesome! I wish I had known sooner I would have totally gotten the LG C6 over this POS Sony.

Re: XBR-65X930D faulty 3D

[ Edited ]

It looks like I'm late to the party ... but I've recently discovered the terrible 3D crosstalk on my 65" ZD9 (UK model Z9D) can be vastly reduced by simply disabling frame interpolation (Motionflow) for the current picture mode as follows:

Press the [ACTION MENU] button, select [Picture], [Advanced settings], [Motion], [Motionflow], set to [Off].

On my particular ZD9, I would estimate disabling Motionflow reduces the 3D crosstalk by about 90%. I would therefore recommend disabling it on all other 2016 Sony TV models to see if that helps.

Re: XBR-65X930D faulty 3D

I've always kept interpolation off. The crosstalk is still far too extreme to be viewable on my 65" 930D.

Also, don't set it to "off", set it to True Cinema, with Cinemotion at High. True Cinema makes sure 24fps sources are played back properly and doesn't use any interpolation, and cinemotion makes sure 24fps sources get detected from non-24fps signal sources (60i or 60p).

Re: XBR-65X930D faulty 3D

It seems the most recent update still have heavy crosstalk issue, I wonder if this is a hardware problem.

Re: XBR-65X930D faulty 3D

That's interesting - the ZD9 explicitly removes [True Cinema] from the current picture mode's Motionflow settings when it detects a 1080p 3D signal, leaving only [Smooth], [Standard] and [Off] as the possible selection.

To confirm, I'm seeing exactly the same reduction in 3D crosstalk when disabling Motionflow on my ZD9 using both the Sony UBP-X800 and PS4 Pro as the player. The TV recently updated itself to Android 7.0 Nougat, so I can't verify if it's the same on 6.0 Marshmallow unforunately.

I hope this information helps someone.
