XBR X900E - Cant get 4K@60Hz only 4K@30Hz

Hello All

I cant seem to get my 4K (3840 x 2160p) tv to run at 60Hz and need help figuring out whats wrong.
Running a Quadro K4000 (has displayport 1.2) on Windows 7 (64bit) connected to my Sony XBR X900E. Using a display port 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter with a HDMI 2.0 cable to connect to the TV using HDMI port #2.

The resolution is set through Nvidia Control Panel to 4K (3840 x 2160p) but the only option is 30Hz not 60Hz (unavailable in drop down).
I tried creating a custom resolution of 3840 x 2160p @60Hz. Windows says its successful when I hit "TEST". When it asks if I want to keep the setting I select "yes" and then the screen flickers black and reverts back to 3840 x 2160p@30Hz
Maybe I dont understand the custom resolution menu or does Window 7 require other settings?

The cable specs all say they support 4K@60Hz. So I dont think its them.
The Quadro K4000 supports 4K@60Hz & so does the TV.

I even have everything plugged into HDMI port #2 per rtings.com review (see below). Maybe I need to make sure "HDMI Enhanced" is enabled on the TV somehow.

"This TV supports all of the common input signals. Only HDMI inputs 2 and 3 are capable of showing 4k @ 60 Hz @ 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 color, and only when 'HDMI Enhanced Format' is enabled. 4:4:4 color is supported in both game and graphics mode....HDMI 2.0 Full Bandwith : Yes (HDMI 2, 3)"

  • Does this mean I need to keep the TV display mode in "game" or "graphics" mode or 'HDMI Enhanced Format' to get 4k 2160p@60Hz?
  • Do have a hardware problem?
  • Windows setting issue?

Re: XBR X900E - Cant get 4K@60Hz only 4K@30Hz

Just had same problem, but only when I didn't have my 2nd monitor connected - turns out HDR mode was turned on in Windows when tv was connected as the only main display.

Right click > display settings > make sure 'HDR and advanced color' is OFF.

If this option is on, then refresh rate at 4k is capped at 30 frames.  Having HDR color setting on also removes some other resolution options / refresh rates.
