The problem with these action cams is that they don't buffer the writes properly so they need ultra fast cards.

Why would a video camera buffer?

Buffering is used for short sequential writes such as images/RAW images so you don't need a fast card to write these files.

It wouldn't make any sense for a video camera to buffer, since a buffer would run full after a period of time and then what would happen? Would the recording stop?

Pilotfly Action-1 Gimbal be a good addition for this camera as well?

I purchased the Pilotfly Action-1 and got some great shots in St. Maarten.  It is a bit fragile, so I have babied it and it has served me w/o any problems.  You do get quite a few odd looks from folks seeing a large handle on such as tiny camera.

Re: Need SD card recommendation for Sony FDR x3000

Hello all, first post, thanks for all the good info!

I am also looking for a good microSD card for this sony action cam.  While I realize there are cheaper $ options, I have sony rewards points so I'd prefer to get a Sony-branded card (cheaper for me since my points are effectively a sunk cost).  Has anyone used the Sony SR-G1UZA/T?  It appears the specs (U3) should make it work for all recording formats.

Thank you for any help you can provide.  I may end up having to be the volunteer guinea pig on this one.

That one should work. IIRC some moderators have recommended that card here.

I can confirm the SR-G1UZA/T 128 G card from Sony works for 4k recording.  Thanks for your help.

Re: Need SD card recommendation for Sony FDR x3000

Hello,

I have checked there, but there is only 128 GB version of Samsung EVO Plus. Do you know 64 GB version works properly while in 4K 100Mbps mode? It has 100MB/s read, 60MB/s write specifications according to its website.

Thanks!

M.

60MB/s is 5 times as much as the camera need.

The camera writes with 12.5MB/s max (which equals 100Mbit/s).
