Re: Play Memories Home doesn't find GPS data from Sony Camcorder MicroSD

AND I erased several files (the small formatted movies).

What do you mean by that? The files which have the same name as the videos, but are way smaller and have another file format store the GPS data.

No they don't.  The files that have the GPS data are stored in a folder called GPS that is hidden inside the folders in Private and then GPS.

I am not talking about the camera - I talk about the files which you import to your PC - the GPS data will end up in the same folder as the videos.

Re: Play Memories Home doesn't find GPS data from Sony Camcorder MicroSD

OK, I downloaded a new version of PMH and ActionCam Movie and tried with new video I took.  I only tried ACM and got as far as multiview import files.  Once I found out where to look for my microSD drive, I selected it.  There are SIX movie files on my SD, ACM only found three.  I gave up.  I downloaded Dashware and will use that going forward.

If you want GPS files, use ACMC and select Create Movie (not Import Media Files). Connect your camera via USB and then select the first option with the GPS overlays, and choose your camera at the top left (not the folders) to import both vid and GPS files. Then drag the vid you want over to the bottom right and hit Next to carry on with the edit. Or you can just nab the files in the folder for input to other software.

I have explained this a couple times in past threads, and it surprises me how often people still get this wrong. It is also pretty clear in the instructions from Sony for the use of ACMC and GPS files,... if people would only take the time and effort to read them. Sure would make it easier on themselves. Even a video tutorial is included with the online instructions.

Re: Play Memories Home doesn't find GPS data from Sony Camcorder MicroSD

You can also do that with Playmemories Home. But I think, I should merge GPS data and Video file. It is an absent feature in PMH. Because ActionCam stores two seperate files thst GPS log file and Video file. Unfortunately, when I move the video files to my hard drive without PMH or ACMC, I can never link the GPS data to Video file.

PMH should have a feature like Dashware.

Hi csezenoglu,

Welcome to the Sony Community!

When you use PlayMemories Home to import your files with GPS information, the software will automatically merge the information for the videos. There is no need to open the GPS files to add them to the right video. Videos uploaded with GPS information will show up with the GPS icon on the right side of the thumbnail. gps.jpg

Re: Play Memories Home doesn't find GPS data from Sony Camcorder MicroSD

Hello MitchC,

Yes, you are right, I can do that with PMH. Please let me tell my experience. I went to US for a trip. I recorded many videos with AC and memory of AC was full. I did not have my PC in US and I copied files to an external HDD. Finally, all gps and video linkages were broken. When I turned home, I could not use my GPS data even though I copied videos and GPS back to ActionCam.

p.s. Sony offices and support are very poor in Turkey. I had a bad experience about PSN account.

Re: Play Memories Home doesn't find GPS data from Sony Camcorder MicroSD

Hi csezenoglu,

Data transferred to a storage device and imported back to the camera may not be read properly. The files may be compressed differently in the storage device to save more space. What I would suggest is importing the videos first to PlayMemories Home before exporting them to your external hard drive to back up.

Re: Play Memories Home doesn't find GPS data from Sony Camcorder MicroSD

I have a similar experience.  It's not reasonable to expect the kind of people who are actually out and about on the wild blue yonder to have their laptops with them.  My action cam gets fed power from a big power pack, and I have to clear its card from time to time as  it uses a ton of storage.

Having a feature as useful, and basic, as GPS tracking simply *not work* because we haven't followed the right software voodoo to get the right files imported with the precise right method is unacceptable.  It's not a matter of 'it amazes us how many users can't follow instructions'.  It IS a matter of "The people who made this software need to get out of the office and USE the products and LISTEN to the consumers who are telling them this part needs improvement."

I now copy everything to hard drive, then when I get home - get this - copy it back to a card, 64Gb at a time, just so I can then RE-import it to the PC using PM Home.  It's a joke.  I'm a Sony junky but sometimes you guys come up with some bone headed stuff.

RIP my poor VAIOs, you were the best
