Re: Sony Action Cam Won't Charge - HDRAS15

I was having a similar problem when trying to recharge the battery. My computer would not recognize the connection unless I was running playmemories program. So it would not connect to charge.

I ended up disconnecting the usb cable, with the cam on (red light glowing) then scrolling through the menu to Pwr -- set it to off.

Once I did that connecting the cable worked fine and the battery started to charge.

Hope that maybe helps someone else. I spents hours fiddling around with this today.

Re: Sony Action Cam Won't Charge - HDRAS15

hi guys,

I bought the as15 camera in may and used it a few times since then, charged it and everything. Now I updated the firmware from v1 to v3 and everything is messed up:

1. the camera turns on by itself every hour or something like that.

2. it won't charge! i plug it in a usb charger (the charger that came with the nexus 7: 5V/2A output) with the provided cable which I used a lot of times to charge the camera. when I plug the usb cable in the camera in 3/4 seconds it turns on, if I power it off from the menu it goes back on by itself !

3. (regarding only the firmware update) how can one transfer files on a smartphone or tablet since the SEND option is gone? The install notes say the SEND option is available in shooting mode: what is that??

thanks

Re: Sony Action Cam Won't Charge - HDRAS15

Please make sure that the action cam's buttons are not accidentally pressed. Note that the unit can easily be turned on by pressing the NEXT or the PREV button.

Please check if you are having the same issues when you are charging via a computer's USB port. Also make sure that the unit is properly turned off by performing the following steps:

  1. On the camera, repeatedly press the NEXT button until PwOFF is shown in the display.
  2. Press the START/STOP (aka ENTER) button to turn off the camera power.

Once the action cam is on shooting mode, you can immediately launch the PlayMemories Mobile app on your smartphone to initiate a connection. You no longer have to access the SEND option to utilize the action cam's WiFi options.

Re: Sony Action Cam Won't Charge - HDRAS15

hi,

I am following those exact steps to power off the camera.

There are 3 situations possible:

1. camera ON, cable plugged in laptop USB: none of the buttons work, even if I eject the usb device(camera) from the laptop.

2. camera turned OFF with cable unplugged: when plugging in the cable (charger or laptop USB port) camera turns itself ON => no charging

3. camera turned ON with cable plugged in external USB charger: I turn the camera OFF from its menu but in ~5 seconds it turns itself back on. I would mention that not even the Auto Power Off feature does not work while the cable is plugged into any source.

Touching the buttons accidentally is only possible if they are malfunctioning somehow, but I shuld have seen that even before the firmware update. I usually keep the camera in its waterproof case.

Is there a way to downgrade the firmware to actually determine if this is a hardware or software problem?

Thanks

Re: Sony Action Cam Won't Charge - HDRAS15

Based on what you have described, it appears that the camera is indeed acting out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, the option to downgrade the firmware is not available. It is best to send the unit in so professional technicians can remedy it.

We kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.

Re: Sony Action Cam Won't Charge - HDRAS15

Hello again,

I think I have found a solution with which I can live for now: with the battery removed I plugged the camera into the external charger (so that I can control it), turned it on then manually off and put the battery inside with the camera plugged and turned off. It appears to be working (charging LED is on).

And totally off-topic: sony europe support website is not working (it gives the 404 error). Maybe you can look into that.

It's good that you have found a way around the issue. Regarding the Sony Europe Support website, I have noted that down and will pass your message to the proper channels. Thank you for letting us know.

Re: Sony Action Cam Won't Charge - HDRAS15

This solved my issue.  The charging light was not coming on when plugged in UNLESS I had turned the camera off by scrolling to the Power Off option and selecting that.

Once you've turned your camera off in this manner, plug it in and the light should come on (or that's how it works for my HDR AS15).

Re: Sony HandyCam Won't Charge - HDR-CX405

HI

My Sony won't charge either...It did at home but now we are away and it won't charge. I've only used it once. I am not using the USB cable it came with but it works to charge my phone. I have tried different cables as well. the light does not even come on. The error message says low power; replace battery vs. charge...could it be my battery? It has not been used at all?

I have no power switch so can't try those other things. thanks
