Remote Flash

[ Edited ]

I want to use my Sony Flash (HVL-F-43M) off camera using the camera's built in flash as the controller and the HVL as the reciever.  I've followed all the directions from the manual and can't get it to function. Am I incorrect in assuming the flashes will work together this way?

Not all cameras can use their built-in flash as a trigger for remote flashes. You may need to mount something like the F20M on your camera instead.

Which camera are you using?

Re: Remote Flash

I'm using the A6000.

I guess I'm reading the manual incorectly as it seems I can do it with the built in flash but feedback is indicating I need an additional hot shoe flash to accomplish it.

Re: Remote Flash

Specifically, if you refer to the HVL-F43M manual, pages 51-56 you will see it shows the remote flash being utilized with the built-in flash.

Re: Remote Flash

From the A6000 Help Guide:

"Note The [Wireless] setting cannot be used with the camera’s internal flash."

In order to use the F43M flash wirelessly with the A6000, you must use an external flash mounted on the A6000's hotshoe. The $150 F20M will do the trick.
