SONY'S COMMITMENT TO THE ALPHA SYSTEM AND SLT CAMERAS

All,

This week I saw an interview given by two top Sony executives at Photokina that re-stated their commitment to the loyal Alpha SLT customers. They stated that the Alpha system is not dead, they know we are out here, and that we are loyal to this system. This was in tandem with the LONG, LONG awaited release of the A99II.

It was the first glimplse of hope that I have not wasted a good deal of money buying a system that will not be supported in the future (especially when Sony seems to be giving their mirrorless systems more priority). A very interesting part of this interview, I thought, was their indifference to professional photograpers adapting to this system. Apparently, there is enough prosumers out there that they are not concerned about the true "professionals"  entrenched in the other two major brands, and that WILL NEVER SWITCH.

Kudos to Sony for confirming that the Alpha SLT program is not dead.

A loyal A77II User and Owner

Re: SONY'S COMMITMENT TO THE ALPHA SYSTEM AND SLT CAMERAS

Hi Remodelman,

Thank you for your message.

Sony will continue its commitment to alpha (DSLR/SLT) customers by releasing new products and providing support.

Again, thank you for choosing Sony!

Regards,

-Anthony

Kudos to the Sony executives who have stated Sony's continuing committment to the A-mount system....over and over again. They must roll their eyes everytime they're asked to say it another time.

I want to believe this; but it's not easy when I don't see the level of commitment to new lens to support the high megapixel cam (A99II). Doesn't make much sense to purchase a cam with 42-44 megapixel and the lens don't allow you to take advantage of it -- like the G-series lens for the E-mount.

and then you have other lens makers saying this is the exact reason they aren't making new lens for A-mount lens; because they see the commitment from Sony to the A-mount.

I meant to say "because they don't see the commitment from Sony...."

If you don't feel Sony is committed then follow the two guys with the big lens libraries. I see Canon and Nikon right over there...in my rear-view mirror. Smiley Very Happy

Actions speak louder than words.  We wouldn't be having this conversation if Sony executives would rolling out A-mount lens like they did for the E-mount lens.  All in the industry agrees that there's no question about the commitment there.

Re: SONY'S COMMITMENT TO THE ALPHA SYSTEM AND SLT CAMERAS

Lance, Please understand this is about Sony camera like myself; who have waited for years for the followup to the A99 -- and are looking to invest into the A99II system immediately. I agree that the Sony A99II is the best DLSR out at this point; however it does no good if the glass/lens available to me don't take full advantage of it's compatibility.

Re: SONY'S COMMITMENT TO THE ALPHA SYSTEM AND SLT CAMERAS

This is about bashing Sony, it's about getting honest answers. I'm just hoping to hear something more than just an empty promise. Be specific about what's on the horizon. I would hope that the building of A-mount lens for the A99II is/was an after thought. I would I expect the simultaneous building of both (Camera and lens).
