a6000 + LAEA3 + A-Mount lens .. should be using the PDAF off the a6000 Sensor ?

a6000 + LAEA3 + A-Mount lens  .. should be using the PDAF off the a6000 Sensor ?

But it seems to NOT be doing that ...

a6000 + LAEA3 + SAL24-70 f2.8 ZA SSM  takes 2 seconds to AF.

IF the  24-70 f2.8 ZA SSM  was fooled into thing it was using PDAF  my guess is that the AF would be FASTER ?

I've tried the SAL70300G and SAL2470Z with the LAEA3 on A6000 and both take around 2-3 seconds to focus.

So I'm guessing it is not using PDAF...

The Phase Detection AF system built into the camera does not work with a lens mount adapter. Using the LA-EA1 or LA-EA3 mount adapter, Contrast AF is activated when an SAM or SSM A-mount lens is attached. However, the LA-EA2 and LA-EA4 have built-in Phase Detection AF; you can use the Phase Detection AF from either of these two mount adapters for focusing instead.

Hawaii-Geek, do you have information on the lens mount adapter used when the SAL-2470Z was used with the A6000?

FrancisG, Re: a6000 + LAEA3 + 24-70Z

FrancisG,

I would think with ALL SONY    a6000 + LAEA3 + 24-70Z   .. including the connections on the new LAEA3 there would be enough "Connections" so the a6000 and the 24-70Z  could "talk" to each other.

* Enough to use PDAF on the a6000 ?

It would seem "Logical" ... and USEFUL.  for all  Sony users.      it would immediatly Expand the Lens selection of the FE E-Mount.

* It would also allow you to use the "Current" FASTEST  PDAF/CDAF   on the a6000  with  any A-Mount.

Which would make A-Mount users happy.

* IN FACT,  I would   project  FARTHER with this ... and say.

The Future  A-Mount  A77 II ? (or any FF future A-Mount)   ...  should have a Weather Sealed   "Changeable" Mount!   (because if it is MirrorLess it now has the space to do that ... like and already made vid Sony does)

Then you could use E-Mount Lens on A-Mount Bodys ... and A-Mount on E- mount bodys  ... BUT,  it needs to Auto-Focus using the PDAF/CDAF  "On-Sensor".     To be truely Useable and Flexable.

* and a HUGE  Selling Feature.

I agree with hawaii geek, be this software or hardware limited kindly find a way to solve this limitation.

Lens line up (especially the long end)is widley recognized as the biggest drawback of the e mount line.  Better/smarter/cheaper adapters that don't handicap the features of the body should be an obvious move.
