a6500 Creating New Folders for Photos

So all my photos are placed in one folder on my sd card, until yesterday my camera starting creating a bunch of new folders and placing my pictures randomly in all these new folders. Why is it doing it and how do I stop it?!

Also because it's doing this, it's changing the file numbers so I'll be having repeat numbers.

Re: a6500 Creating New Folders for Photos

Hi Bcarroll1609,

Thank you for considering Sony Community!

To resolve this issue, please set the [File Number] to [Series]:

MENU → (Setup) → [File Number] → [Series]

When the [File Number] is set to [Series], the camera will assign numbers to files sequentially up to "9999" without resetting.

The File Number is set to Series. It has changed folders 3 times on me over the course of a couple days. It will even mix and mingle photos into all 3 different photos from the same shoots.

Re: a6500 Creating New Folders for Photos

Hi Bcarroll1609,

If [Folder Name] is set to [Standard Form] and there are 2 folders or more, you can select the folder on the memory card to which images are to be recorded.

MENU→ (Setup)→[Select REC Folder]→desired folder.

Note: You cannot select the folder when [Folder Name] is set to [Date Form].

Folder Name

Still images are recorded in a folder that is automatically created inside the DCIM folder on the memory card. You can change the way folder names are assigned.

1 MENU (Setup) [Folder Name] desired setting. Menu item details

Standard Form:

The folder name form is as follows: folder number + MSDCF. Example: 100MSDCF

***Once this folder is FULL 9999 images, it will start folder 101MSDCF, etc.

***When the memory chip reaches 999MSDCF, the card is FULL. You must move images off of the card, and format the card.

Date Form of Folder Naming:

The folder name form is as follows: folder number + Y (the last digit)/MM/DD. Example: 10060405(Folder number: 100, date: 04/05/2016)

Every day will start with file number 0001.

If the folder gets to 9999, then it will start a new folder for that day, eg 10160405.

File Naming:

Series: will assign numbers to files sequentially up to "9999" without resetting.

Soooooo, unless you monitor image numbers they WILL repeat.

IF you use DATE Folder, they will repeat every day!!!

===

IF you never want you image numbers to repeat, you will need to rename the image numbers.

There are some very good file renaming programs, I use PERFECT RENAME on my mac.

I would suggest renaming with the folder number.

e.g. 100MSDCF\images 0001-9999. become 100_0001 to 100_9999

If you will be taking millions of photos, simpy expand the prefix numbers:

0100_0001 to, eventually, 9999_9999
