Re: "Warning you are in NTSC Mode" wtf?

They have not demonstrated the desire to fix this. Warnings do not appear out of thin air so at some point there must have been a product management decision that there needed to be this warning. Getting that decision reversed for us is unlikely.

As I see it you have two options. Find another product or parallel import a NTSC model. Smiley Sad

Re: "Warning you are in NTSC Mode" wtf?

Yes, bostwickenator, we do have those two options and that's well and good but I already paid $5000.00 NZ for the A7RII and while I might recover some of that money selling it used and then purchasing an NTSC model offshore that hardly seems like a fun approach. If Sony New Zealand would swap my PAL model for an NTSC model that would be an acceptable solution. Will that happen - pigs might fly.

In New Zealand we have about 30 million sheep and I'm not one of them. Yes, we could all say OK Sony, we will put up with this nonsense, grin and bear it, and you just know Sony will carry on believing their hugely annoying messaging is not problematic for their customers. The other option is what this thread is all about and that is to raise the matter wherever and whenever possible and 'encourage' Sony to listen to their customers and do the right thing.

If they don't their future is...they have no future in the long run.

As has been pointed out in this thread there are valid reasons to shoot NTSC video in a PAL country, that is not really in question, or should I say it shouldn't be. In my humble opinion there can be no valid reason why I must be notified via an in-the-face warning message every time I boot up the camera that the camera is set up as I intended.

A simple firmware fix, please Sony.

Re: "Warning you are in NTSC Mode" wtf?

Let me wholeheartedly add my name to the list of people who think this NTSC warning is ridiculous.  Like the man said, if you're going to warn me about this, why not warn me about ten other important settings?  And then please give me some credit and allow me to turn them off.

Re: "Warning you are in NTSC Mode" wtf?

Hi all!

Yes, very strange and awkward message which shown not only at each startup,
but even at every time camera come out of sleep mode!

Please remove it, there is no sence at all with this warning.

Well, if not, then it looks that my next camera will be Panasonic again =)

Re: "Warning you are in NTSC Mode" wtf?

[ Edited ]

Four plus days have passed and I have not heard so much as a peep out of Sony. So much for the 48 hour response time. I did receive a reference number from the lady in the Philippines, the first responder, so perhaps I might try again and quote the number. I suspect I'm wasting my time.

I do note that immediately following your initial post, Trebau, a moderator MichelleC pointed out that this is 'normal operation for units that are native to PAL settings' and that she would forward this to the engineering department. Yes, we know that MichelleC, unfortunately, and of course this is not an engineering issue but a design issue implemented by engineering, presumably. Her response is simply a standard format reply that adds zero value to the situation, unfortunately.

A search on the Internet informs one that this issue goes back years and several models. My guess is that notwithstanding the abundant feedback Sony, for whatever reason, has dug in its heels and simply won't budge on this and the customers be 'you know what'. It is common knowledge that Sony corporation is in 'troubled waters financially', some say they are in disarray, and so it is also possible that this sort of customer-focused opportunity is the last thing on their minds.

Oh well, they are certainly not the only game in town, fortunately.

The imaging division is higihly profitable. There is a restructure going on right now. Look up the spin off on the Sony Semiconductor Solutions business. Anyway lets stay on topic.

Also MichelleC, thanks, even if it doesnt do much more than go on a backlog thanks for putting things into the system for us.

Re: "Warning you are in NTSC Mode" wtf?

I am raising my digital voice here, too. It just requires a simple adjustment: either allow the user to deactive the message completely, or better yet add an icon to the monitor that tells you which mode your in. The fact its not just when you turn it on but wake it up is rediculous too.
