Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)

Everyone I got a call from one I Sony's product specialists and they told me the problem was fixed. They had to reset something on their end. I went ahead and reset all my setting to factory defaults and reconnected my network. All my apps are back. Thank you Sony for addressing our concerns.

Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)

Yeah!!!!  All I had to do is run the update they pushed out.  I did not have to reset anything.  I did have to re-log into Netflix.  Thanks to everyone who continued to push this issue!!

Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)

This is really ******ing me off. Yesterday I did the update and it gave me Xfactor (gag) which is no problem because I would just ignore it. But tonight the update erases everything leaving some Asian TV app.

I updated it again and also set it back to it's factory settings but nothing is happening. I really hope you guys fix this very quickly.

Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)-- What WORKED for me !!

This is what worked for me:

Initially I did all the reset instructions and check the IP, showed USA.  No Luck.

I unplugged the phone line from the modem overnight and I expect that a new IP was obtained.

Then a call from my neigbor a few days later ( I recommended this player to him arrrghhh).

I went through all the procedure and check the IP and made a note of the number. (Said USA IP)

I then proceeded to log into the modem directly (find instructions for your particular model or call your ISP).

Found where to "release WAN IP" and then Renew.  I got a new IP address (compare to old that you wrote down).

This is NOT the same as "renew/release" of IP config of the ROUTER (192.168.....etc...) it is the WAN IP from your provider.

Once I got the new IP address, I did the 3 or more resets of BOTH personal data and unit settings.

Then all was good. Go to "update internet content icon" where the chinese channel used to be.

Hope this helps someone. I am on CenturyLink in FL.

So previous posts get you halfway there, but you MUST get a new WAN IP from your provider one way or another.

If you are not technical, just try unplugging the phone line overnight.

Good luck to all.

Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)

HOUSEWIFE SOLUTION... YOU ARE ALL WELCOME!!!! Did you sit down on the couch thinking that you were going to turn on Netflix and watch House of Cards or the Walking Dead?.... Only to turn on your brand new Sony Blu ray device to find all of your applications MIA?... Me too and man was I angry.

FIRST THINGS FIRST... THIS IS NOT SONYS PROBLEM, BLAME THE WEATHER!!! It is highly likely you lost power to your device. "Weather" (teehee) it be a power outage from mother nature...or your spouse tripping a surge with her blow dryer. God I hope your living room isn't on the same breaker as your bathroom... anyway, back to my point...

Factory reset your player. Unplug it while it is on after the reset. This hard resets it. Leave it unplugged 5 minutes. March your ****** over to your router and modem. Unplug both ALL cables just to be sure. Wait 90 seconds. Plug the router and modem back in. Get your whiney ****** back upstairs and plug the player back in. You will notice an internet connection update icon under VIDEO... pick it. Go through the motions of the update and setting up the wifi or wired connection. Voila. You are welcome. MOTHER NATURE MAY HAVE STUMPED YOU BUT THE ONLY PERSON WHO KICKED YOUR ****** WAS YOURSELF.

This solution was written by me, a housewife, who fixed her setup while wearing nothing but a towel and who used her basic computer skills. When in doubt, reset.

Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)

Have performed the steps you listed. It did not work. I'm still without all apps with the exception of search Internet videos, YouTube, wired, epicurious, concierge, style, and dailymotion? NO INTERNET UPDATE UNDER VIDEO ICON.

Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)

If you do if you did exactly what I told you it should have worked . It is possible possible that what i called the icon under video was incorrect. there should be 4 icons under the video section. make sure when you first turn it on and are going through setup that you skip the wifi or network connection part. when you do that, the icon will come up. for me, it was the last icon at the bottom under video. hope that helps.

Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)

Attempted one more time. I did not do anything other than the "quick" setup when the unit starts up. Under video I have the following options. Erase BD Data, Search Internet Video, YouTube, Wired, Epicurious.com, Concierge.com, Style.com, and Dailymotion. There isn't any option for internet update that you speak of. There is a Network icon (shaped like a globe) directly to the right of the Video icon, but it is unresponsive. The player's Software Version is M04.R.787. When I attemped a Network Update it said was already up to date. Not sure what to do now.

Re: All web apps have disappeared on BD-BX57 (Please help)

1. Make sure that the player has its latest firmware version. You can go to System Settings and get the software version under System Information. Make sure it is M04.R.787 (BDPBX57). If not, go to Network Update under Setup and perform the update.
2. Turn off the player and the router and then unplug the power cord for 1 full minute.
3. After a minute, plug the player and the router back and turn them on again. Check if the applications are back. If not, proceed with the next step.
4. Go to Setup then select Initialize Personal Information under Resetting and complete the process.
5. Go back to video menu and select internet video.
6. If it won't show internet video option or any internet applications, do a factory reset on the player. Go to Resetting under Setup. Select Reset to Factory Default Settings and then choose All Settings. Turn off the player for 10 seconds and turn it back on. Follow on screen steps to complete the initial and easy setup.
7. Do the network setup (wired/wireless). During the network setup manually enter the ip address and change the Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4. Follow the link below to manually set IP address on the player.

8. Once the player is connected to the internet, go to video menu and select internet video. The player will acquire all the internet content and then it will show all the internet applications.
9. If issue persist, go to www.ip2location.com from your computer connected to the same network. Under product picker right below ip address, verify that the country shows USA. If is shows other country, please call your Internet Service Provider and have them update the ip address and the country.
