Hello manomet4.
Welcome to Sony Community and thank you for your post.

Yes, a USB keyboard can be used with the BD player for manual text input.
This includes entering a website address or URL and performing searches.

Thank you.

One added note to avoid confusion,   your keyboard  will only work once  you have  the Remote  keypad screen popup  that allows you to type with the remote,   then you can use your keyboard instead,  its the only place you will be able to type.

Re: Can I use a USB keyboard instead of remote to access internet?

Based on this thread, I just tried a wireless keyboard, plugging the keyboard's dongle into the USB port. First, I used the Blu-Ray remote to access the on screen keyboard. Then I tried the full wireless keyboard. It didn't work. Perhaps an infra-red keyboard would work?

Hello Kenneth,

Wireless keyboard is not compatible with the Player.
Use a standard 101 USB keyboard.

Colby

Re: Can I use a USB keyboard instead of remote to access internet?

Hello - confusing here a bit - when you say 'any BD player' I am assuming that means any Sony player with the beginning part of BD. I only ask that as the one version I looked at online says usb port is just for flash stick. As in Sony BDP-S5100 "USB Slot for quickly enjoying music, photos and videos5"
I cant really afford the higher priced ones, and to me, using a 'left, right, up, down, enter' on the remote for netflix just destroys the remote in a week, and is asinine.  Thanks - Tim
