Re: The Blu-ray Disc® (BD) player cannot play a disc or displays a NO DISC error.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the BD player cannot read or play a disc:

NOTE:  Some BD players may display the error Cannot operate this disc.

IMPORTANT: Prior to following the steps below, go to the Drivers & Software section of the Sony® eSupport website to check for available firmware updates. If available, a firmware update will be posted with a list of improvements over the original or any previous firmware version. Some disc playback issues may be resolved by making sure the BD player has the most current firmware installed.

  1. Verify the Easy Setupprocedure has been completed on the BD player.

NOTE:Cannot play DISCmay display on the LCD screen if the Easy Setup procedure was not completed first.

  2. Make sure that the Parental Control settings are not on.
  3. Make sure the inserted disc is compatible with the BD player.

NOTE: Consult the instruction manual of the BD player for a list of compatible discs.Manuals are available online through the Manuals/Specs/Warranty link on this page.

  4. Certain BD players may require that a USB memory device has been properly inserted into the EXT slot of the player prior to playing the movie. If the BD player being used does not have an EXT input, skip this step.

NOTE: The USB memory device may need to be re-formatted to FAT32 format prior to inserting it into the player.

  5. If the BD player supports BD-Live, set the BD Internet Connection setting to Do Not Allowand delete any conflicting BD-Live data by following these steps:
    1. Using the supplied remote, press the Home or Menubutton.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select BD/DVD Viewing Settings.
    4. Press the Enterbutton.
    5. Select BD Internet Connection.
    6. Select Do Not Allow.
    7. Press the Enterbutton.
    8. Select Video.
    9. Select Erase BD Data.
    10. Press the Enter button.
  6. Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
  7. Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
  8. Wipe the top of the disc tray using a soft dry cloth before placing the disc on the tray. Attempt to play the disc again.
  9. Attempt to play another disc.

NOTE: If another disc plays in the player, then the previous disc may be faulty. In this case, contact the Customer Information Service Center at (239) 768-7547 to speak with a customer service representative.

  10. Remove the disc from the BD player.
  11. Turn off the BD player.
  12. Unplug the power cord of the BD player from the electrical outlet.
  13. Let the player remain without power for one minute.
  14. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  15. Turn on the BD player.
  16. Insert the disc into the BD player.
  17. Attempt to play the disc.

The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.
