Re: UBP-X800 Lockup issues

My UBP-X800 blu-Ray has powered up to no video twice now. I did the reset in the manual STOP, HOME POP UP/MENU and it did not fix it. I had to unplug it and disconnect the HDMI cable and then reconnect it. I had to do it a few times before it finally displayed a picture. I hope SONY is working on a firmeare update to fix this. Also, most of the time the player does not remember the internet connections. I have to do an internet setup when I turn it on.

Re: UBP-X800 Lockup issues

Try turning off the power save mode so the system is always booted up. That helps A LOT on both my former UBP-X800 and my current UBP-X1000ES.

Same issues here. 4K streaming works for an hour, then freezes. The screen vanishs and does not resolve until the plug if pulled.

I bought the UBP-X800 on Feb. 1, 2018. I so I have had a whopping 3 days. I was VERY disappointed when this started happening. I looked it up and saw that this is affecting many people. I just made the change suggested by user DWilson. I am waiting-and hoping-this is, at least, a solid workaround, as that is better than the freezing up. Hopefully a future firmware update will solve the issue.

If this workaround does not help, I have plenty of time to return it get a different player. I will not fight with an issue this incovenient.

Re: UBP-X800 Lockup issues

Get your money back. It doesn't seem that Sony wants to fix these issues. Or at least we don't see much comment from Sony that they are actually trying to fix anything on this model.

Turning off the HDMI Control does seem to avoid the movies freezing in mid play issue, but doesn't resolve the actual issue.

You'll still likley have the issue where the unit is 'frozen' after waking, or new disc after awakening is not detected. Unit recovers after the hard power cycle. Others say this is resolved by turning the quick boot off so that it cold boots every time. I'm about to start trying this setting now too.

I'm getting really tired of climbing into the wiring behind the TV to pull the power cord out of the UBP to get it working again.

Really wishing I spent my money on any of the other brands...

I still haven't bothered to color calibrate since it fails so frequently.

Re: UBP-X800 Lockup issues

UPDATE: Despite making the change that user DWilson suggested, this continued to occur, hence, I returned the player this morning. I wish there was a way to determine which serial numbers are affected. Although it happened to many of us, it is obviously not happeneing to everyone who got this player as Sony would've been willing to, at least, try to fix it. Thank you all!

Re: UBP-X800 Lockup issues

I got one for Christmas. It would freeze randomly and reboot on netflix, you tube and while streaming from my Nas. Returned it to sony and got a replacement. It did the same thing. Now I am waiting for my third one. I hope this one works or I will try to get my money back. Has any one heard if there is a firmware to fix the problem or if it is just random units? The Sony tech supports says that it not a know issue with units.

Re: UBP-X800 Lockup issues

There likely a minimum number of complaints required for it to be a ‘known problem’. Additionally they’ve since released the x700 which likely fixed known shortcomings/major issues with this product and if you paid for this version ‘haha thanks suckers’ we paid for the R&D for the 700.

Re: UBP-X800 Lockup issues

I've had plenty of lockups with my units.  Originally purchased in June 2017 and Sony replaced it in September 2017.  Now, it seems as though this unit is going to start locking up like the previous unit. This always requires a power cycle and can occur at any time.

Perhaps it is time for a class action lawsuit?
