BDP-S1000ES "connection status cannot be confirmed"

I have a BDP-E1000ES.  When I run the network check, it says the network settings are correct.   I have checked this both wired and wireless and they both say the network settings are correct.  I have tried this with both automatic and manual inputing of settings.  When I try to run the network update, I get the error message:  "connection status cannot be confirmed".   Very frustrating.  I have a Netgear R6300 (AC) router that is fairly new and fast.  All my other devices connect seamlessly and without errors.   Any suggestions are appreciated.
