I have the exact same problem right now with my BDP-S390 MR. The "Connection status cannot be confirmed" after 20s or so of "Connecting to internet video service 1/3" happened a couple of times earlier week, but this evening despite a power cycle, router reset, player network settings factory reset and other troubleshooting actions, the player cannot connect. It can however connect to the Internet in the browser app, so nothing is wrong with its connectivity. I don't have advanced logging on my router so I can't trace what it's doing when "connecting to internet video service," but assuming it's the same, the problem can only be with Sony's server and/or something between this client and that server specifically.

 

Sony staff, I notice you did not reply to the last message about what was wrong. I will try changing DNS servers and static IP but I'd bet my botto dollar that the BBC iPlayer website will work perfectly through the browser, even though Sony's inability to track that I used the player (the only difference when clicking on the 'app') isn't functioning.

 

I too am becoming frustrated and would like the matter explained as well as resolved.

Resetting to factory defaults and then setting up again worked. Very simple though a bit of a pain.

I'm having the same issue. I run the network settings, and I'm told that I am connected to the Internet with no issues. I reset the unit to factory default, and my unit is up to date (received the unit Tuesday). None of the internet apps, including the browser, will connect. No other device is having difficulty connecting. I have the S5100. I will comment on every thread that has posts today in the hopes someone has something helpful to say.

I did all that and still got "connection status cannot be confirmed." I have updated (got an "already updated") message, checked the cable into the BD (ran it into my laptop and it carried the internet successfully), tried changing the DNS numbers (it wouldn't take them -- wanted a whole raft of other numbers that I don't know about), and reset as you advised. I got the error message at 6:30. Now it's 8:30. How much longer will this go on?

I am having the same issue as well. Connects to the internet fine, but will not connect to the internet video channels. I have already checked for network updates, reset both modem and router, restored to factory settings and re-setup, and done the manual setup with 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 mentioned before. All to no avail.

The obnoxious thing is it looks like this issue dates back months, and no one can resolve it. I never had this problem on my PS3. I'm regretting not buying the Panasonic player now...

Months ago (when I joined the thread), the problem quietly 'fixed itself': after prolonged denials, SONY admitted to me on the phone that they had an issue on their end; three days later everything went back to normal.  I haven't checked if my two players have issues today -- but I wouldn't be surprised.

Ok, after reading this it looks like this happened almost 3 months ago.

 

Judging by the amount of new posts and that I'm having this problem now I think the servers are down/unavailable again.

 

SONY - is there a timeline on the fix yet?

I have a BDP-S1100, wired connection to my router.  Same issue this evening.  Did a factory reset of all settings and was able to re-login to NetFlix.  Exited Netflix and tried YouTube, and wham!  "Connection status cannot be confirmed."


Went back to NetFlix, no joy. Can't get there either.

 

So, I tried the factory reset again - - this time, can't even get to Netflix to login.  "A network error has occured" with the same "connection status cannot be confirmed."

Unfortunately, this is late on a Thursday already. The last time around, SONY didn't fix the issue until early in the following week. My recommendation: abandon troubleshooting, grab a few drinks with friends, come back on Tuesday -- and enjoy the full functionality as if nothing happened.
