BDP-S5100

I'm trying to watch MLB.tv on my POS BDP-S5100 and I keep getting the following error:  "SSL Alarm Display:  The security of the target page cannot be confirmed.  An error has occurred during the server authentication."  I've only had this ****** piece of ****** for a few months, and so many issues.  Screw you, Sony.  How the ****** do I fix this?

Re: BDP-S5100

Make sure that the software of the player is updated. Click this link to check the latest firmware version of the player.

Try doing a power reset on the BD player. Follow the steps below:

1. Turn off the Blu-ray player.
2. Unplug the AC power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Leave the player without power for 1 minute.
4. Plug the AC power cord back into the electrical outlet.
5. Turn on the player and check if issue persist.

For us to further assist you, please provide more information. Are you using the browser of the BD player to access MLB.TV or the application under Video Menu? Also, do you see the error when you launch the application or once you sign in?

Please try other applications (e.i. Netflix and Youtube) and check if you get any error message as well.

Re: BDP-S5100

I have the exact same problem.   Seems to have started when I changed MLB.com passwords.  The new password works fine when I access games on my laptop.  I believe it is also recognized by MLB.com on my Sony BDP-S5100 as it lets me log in to MLB.com and recognizes my favorite team.  But when I try to click on a game to watch, get the message "SSL Alarm Display.....The security of the target page cannot be confirmed.  An error has occurred during server authentication".

Very frustrating as I haven't been able to watch MLB.com games on my TV since a couple weeks after I bought the Sony player.   Tried the recommended..unplug for a minute and plug back in.  Also tried unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging back in.  Neither did anything.

I can watch other streaming applications...Netlix, YouTube, etc., on the player without a problem.  Any suggestions besides throwing it in the trash and never buying a Sony again?

I'm pretty sure it's not the firmware as it worked fine before I switched MLB.com passwords.  I've tried the old password as well and it indicates that one is invalid which makes sense.   Others must be having this problem?

Re: BDP-S5100

Thank you for the message, dbabb42!

You may follow this link for steps on how to manually set an IP address on your Blu-ray player. Also, change the Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and the Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4.

Re: BDP-S5100

Thanks for your reply.  I'm wondering why I would want to manually set my IP address.  If applications on the Blu-ray player such as Netflix and YouTube are functioning perfectly well, doesn't that mean my IP adress is set?

To answer your questions, I'm using the MLB.TV application under the Video Menu and not the internet browser.  Also, as I mentioned, the error occurs when I click on a specific game to watch.  In other words, it is both after I have launched the application, and after I have signed in.  For comparison, if you're not that familiar with the MLB application, if it were YouTube, it would be as if I had already gone to the YouTube site and logged in with my password.  I could get to my account fine, but once I tried to launch a specific video to watch, that is when the error occurs.

Hope this helps to diagnose my problem.  Well, the baseball season is over now but it would be nice to know I could get it to function for next year.

Thanks

You can try doing a factory reset on the player. Follow the steps below:

1. Using the supplied remote, press the Home button.
2. Go to Setup.
3. Under Setup, select Resetting.
4. Under Resetting, select Reset to Factory Default Settings.
5. Select All Settings.

If the player goes off after the factory reset, just turn it back on and the Easy Setup will be displayed on the screen. But if the player does not turn off just go back to the Setup Menu then go to Easy Setup. Just follow the on-screen prompts to finish the Initial Setup of the player.

After resetting the player, do the network setup and manually set the IP address. Change the Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4.

Also, make sure that the player is updated. Click this link to check the latest software of the BD player.

They are lying to you....it's not your player..it is an ADMITTED problem with a combo of their servers and the firmware upgrade for your player...I have a BDP-S280 an it lags all the time. I have a 12 mg connection and I'm getting below 2 CONSISTENTLY..I have been waiting a fix for over a year now...they only admitted it a couple of months ago...they have isued a statement a short time ago saying firmware updates are "in the pipeline and should be available in the coming weeks...". You see, the problem is, unlike other player from, say, Panasonic, Sony makes you go through THEIR servers, then to Netflix. This is to make sure Sony doesn't loose money over copyrighted material...so you get a sub-par experience on something you paid money for, all because of greed...DON"T BUY SONY ANYMORE...All of the resets, pressing power for 30 seconds, and all of the other BS they tell you to do, DOES NOTHING! They are the problem!!

Re: BDP-S5100

Unplugging the machine does not tend to clear the cache's memory, it appears to be an issue with Sony's server.  My Roku works perfectly...and I am not an advocate for Roku, I just want my five Sony BDP-XXXX to work. Robot Sad  Very sad.

Re: BDP-S5100

Sony does not play fairly. It is pbvious that this is a technique by them to be non-supportive of their direct competitiors.  All the time that I had set aside to watch a film or show on a Soy media player, but I couldn't watch because of buffering, i.e., slow delivery of Sony' server, I plan to use that two hours of time each go around to post horrible reviews about Sony's media players on sites such as Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Sam's, Cruchfield, B&H, Adaramo, Tiger Direct,  and other websites about evryone of Sony's BDP with media, and their stand-alone media servers.  Want to play unfairly, let's go.
