MPEG-2 Formatted DVD

Will a MPEG-2 Formatted DVD play on most name brand DVD Players, as well as, on a computer ?

I had read that the MPEG-2 format preserved better quality of pictures and better quality of sound, Is that statement accurate ?

To play on most older DVD Players, what format is the most univeral ?

I am a novice, please provide easy details.

Thank You

Hi Rayah712,

Welcome and thank you for considering SONY Community!

Most of the DVD players support MPEG1 formats.

Recently released DVD players support MPEG1 and MPEG4 formats.

Thanks,

Thank You, Joffrey, for answering my Question.

My DVD Player is the Sony Blu-Ray BDP-S590.

Will my DVD Player play both the MPEG1 and the MPEG4 Formats?

My BDP-S590 Player will not play the MPEG-2

formatted DVD's, is this correct?

I will appreciate your answers.
