Trouble withh Sony Internet Player NS8

Trouble with Sony Internet TV NS8.
Upgraded recently from the GT1 to the NS8.
Everything was working fine (for about 2 weeks) with the new NS8 until a week ago. Suddenly lost HD signal (everything looks SD) and now have a bar above and below picture.
Checked picture settings on TV, NS8. Nothing resolves issue.
Checked HDMI cables - fine.
Factory reset. No help.
Hook HDMI from cable box directly to TV - beautiful picture.
Hook up my old GT1 - beautiful picture.

Figured must be some hardware issue with the NS8. Returned it and got a new unit. Same problem.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on a fix? I have spent hours troubleshooting. Sony support is absolutely no help at all.

Re: Trouble withh Sony Internet Player NS8

Please check the picture size of the the player. Follow the steps below:

1. Press Home button on the supplied remote.
2. Select All Apps.
3. Go to Settings.
4. Select Picture & sound - Picture & display.
5. Select Picture Size.
6. Set the picture display area to match the screen size.

For us to further assist you, please provide mode information. Is the bar also shows when streaming internet videos (e.g. Youtube and Netflix)? How about on the Home screen or the Google Browser?

Re: Trouble withh Sony Internet Player NS8

Additional information

NSZ-GS8 is the device with issues. No HD picture and bars at top and bottom of picture.

Firmware 3.2
Build ...ending in... 7254

NSZ-GT1 is another Sony device I have that is working perfectly

Firmware 3.2
Build ...ending in... 2811

Since the NSZ-GS8 was working perfectly for several weeks befor the trouble, could the issue be with the Build?

Re: Trouble withh Sony Internet Player NS8

Try changing the aspect ratio on the cable box. Look for a Pound key, Format, or Aspect button on the cable remote control. Press that button and check if that eliminates the bars on top and bottom and improve the picture quality.

Re: Trouble withh Sony Internet Player NS8

Solved.

Comcast Motrola HD/DVR box
With TV on, turn the cable box power off
Push the Menu button on Remote or Box
Wait several moments for a User Settings menu to appear on screen. (It comes up, even with power off)
Using cursor keys, navigate to the HDMI setting. It probably says 720p next to it. (if it says 1080i, that’s the max. Not many, if any, stations are broadcasting at 1080p)
If it’s 720 or lower, press the OK/Select button. Screen will blank out and reappear with new setting. Every time you press the button, it jumps to a new setting. Do it until you get the highest your box offers.
Once you have 1080i or 1080p showing, turn the power back on with the power button. You should now have a better picture.
And

1. All Apps > Settings > Picture & sound > Wide mode.

2. All Apps > Settings > Picture & sound > Resolution(2D) > Auto/720P/1080i

3. All Apps > Settings > Picture & sound > YCbCr/RGB (HDMI) > YCbCr (4:4:4) (not auto)

4. All Apps > Settings > Picture & sound > Noise reduction > Off

5. All Apps > Settings > Unit settings > Eco >
Quick start: ON
Auto standby: Off

6. All Apps > Settings > Unit settings >
7. Control for HDMI > Off
8. Advanced video setting > Mode 2

Fixed the issues. Now a few HD channels are showing in 4:3 aspect ratio but figure that is is just a zoom setting i can fiddle with - or leave as is.

Thanks all for the help.
