For me I did it through the Sony Facebook page. When I called the support line they hung up on me.

So with this "manufacturing defect" does anyone actually know what has failed in the set? Is it repairable at all?

It's a defect that would require replacing the entire panel, part number A1878878B.

 

Short answer is no, you can't repair it.

I have just learned that there is a group of video lovers, like myself, that are having horizontal lines form on their XBR-55HX950 televisions.  My screen continues to develop lines and has for the past several months.  I cannot believe that Sony is not replacing the TVs with a comparable model.  I am currently working with my lawyer on this, as my understanding is that when you recall something, you replace it with a comparable model.  What do I need to do with Sony to get this rolling?  My set is a 2013 model and I love it, except for the lines.  What a terrible thing Sony is doing.

I feel your pain and have just started the process. Unfortunately Sony has taken a hard stance on replacing our TV's with an inferior product. No disrespect to the reps I have talked to on the phone, but it's obvious their just reading from a predetermined script. No real answers to anything technical. There also isn't a huge rush to replace the Tv as you have to Sept 2017. I am waiting for a class action suit to start(hopefully) in the near future.
