Re: The official XBR-55HX950 "horizontal line" panel defect thread

My wife and I absolutely love the look of our 55HX950.  Edge-to-edge glass, inky blacks, no blooming or light leaks and phenomenal build quality all add up to the best television without 4K.  It's sad that I can't just get the panel replaced or get another one as it does everything I need it to do.

The X930D does come in 55" though even that has its own issues with slight bit of blooming and clouding though the higher than average input lag would be a concern for me.

Re: The official XBR-55HX950 "horizontal line" panel defect thread

[ Edited ]

I whole-heartedly agree, it is the best set Sony has ever made, and I'm reluctant to let it go, even if it had the lines. Had I known there would be defectson the 55" model, I would have happily stepped up to the 65" version...sigh

Every edge lit panel will have bleed/clouding, but the X930D has improved significantly over the X900C. It is a very, very nice quality panel.

Maybe Sony culd take an unorthodox approach and purchase this used HX929 (similar to the HX950), and send it to me...

It would be cheaper to send me a X930C, but ok...

Re: The official XBR-55HX950 "horizontal line" panel defect thread

Should we be considering legal action?

Re: The official XBR-55HX950 "horizontal line" panel defect thread

Unless there's a lot of us, I suppose small claims court would be the only legal action we can take.

I understand that the regular customer service (and customer relations it would seem) read off the same script and have some set flowchart of what can be offered but it seems silly that we have no way of escalating it to an actual manager who can make decisions outside of predetermined solutions.  It's even more ridiculous that they won't even budge when I offer to throw more money at them!

This is what I see as acceptable solutions:

1. Replace with an XBR-HX950 or replace the panel (yes, I know there are no parts and no units left)

2. Replace with an XBR-65X950B (refurb or new but with the full warranty and I am will to pay on top)

3. Replace with an XBR-55X930D (refurb or new but with the full warranty)

4. Replace with an XBR-65X930C (refurb or new but with the full warranty)

Less desireable solutions we can discuss:

1. Full refund of our purchase price either by cheque or even store credit at our choice of Sony authorized retailer.

I know you can still get the XBR-65X950B at retailers like Best Buy US and B&H so there's still some in the channel.

Absolutely, I concur 100%.

Any reps brave enough to do the proper thing and take up this issue, please feel free to PM me. I'm sure Purehazard would like a similar PM.

I suggest we work out an actual solution outside of the courts. It would not be cost effective to either side to raise the matter over a couple thousand dollar television. However, its not about the money, its about sending a message.

Purehazard, I was offered the same runaround as last time. X850C or X900C, which I rejected. Again. I'm sure they gave you the same deal. Again. I feel as if the argument we present is being completely thrown out the window here. Even the X900B, which I requested and was approved, only later to be told it was out of stock, is not being offered. I find it hard to believe Sony doesn't have any stock of 55X900B or 65X900B when MODIA has some. Purehazard, let me know if you want to coordinate something on legal action.

Yeah, I got the same PM. I probably would have opted for the 55X900B because I actually like the oversized speakers.

Re: The official XBR-55HX950 "horizontal line" panel defect thread

agreed. I asked for a 55X900B and it was approved, but then I was told it was out of stock even after it was approved. I pushed for a 65X900B and it was denied. This is so ******, and I have no idea where to go from here. The TV was purchased by my aunt, who is deceased now, so I have no way of getting proof of purchase. Regardless. I wish they took us more seriously. The options offered are jokes.

Re: The official XBR-55HX950 "horizontal line" panel defect thread

It seems insane that flagship Sony TVs nowadays only lasts 2-4 years. I have an entry level KDL-32M4000 from 2008, an entry level Viewsonic 32" LCD from 2006 and a Samsung 26" LCD from 2008, all still working without issue.

Yet my flagship KDL-46XBR8 lasted just 4 years and now my XBR-55HX950 only 2 years. Imagine if you had to replace your Ferrari every few years because it was defective.
