Cybershot DSC-RX100 USB cable?

Hello, It's been a some time since my camera has been connected to my computer and the firmware is probably out of date. Tried all my USB cables and none fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need a micro-USB-to-USB-A cable. You should have gotten one with the camera which is the same cable used to charge the camera. If you have lost yours, you can also use the same cables that Android phones use.

Re: Cybershot DSC-RX100 USB cable?

If this camera is the same as my NEX system, when it comes to firmware updating, it will need to use a genuine Sony cable.

NEX firmware upgrades reject if not on an official Sony USB cable, for myself, I used one for the PS3 Controller.

I believe the PS4 controller would have the requisite USB cable for the RX camera if it does use the micro USB version as mention above....

For firmware updating it is absolutely essential to not bodge the process, and I commend Sony for coming up with a method to ensure greater success with the process (for a process that can easily brick expensive hardware if done incorrectly or glitches out during the process).

I actually know PC tech shops that WILL NOT DO firmware updating due to the serious nature of the process; that Sony can find a way to ensure that users have a higher success rate ensures that users are not caught out/ without their camera.

Clever.

And well done for moving the whole electronics platform in the right direction of industry standard cables...

Playstation / Sony cables stand out vs cheaper parts due to the 'magnet bumps' molded into their design (reduces interference, and creates a better more reliable transmission environment)

Re: Cybershot DSC-RX100 USB cable?

All newer Sony Cameras use standard microUSB cables for data transfer and charging. Some older cables only worked for charging, not for data transfer, so they couldn't be used for transfering images from your camera to your computer or for updating firmware, but nobody makes those cables anymore.

The 'magnet bumps' that Whitedragem referred to are ferrite cores that can be obtained seperately and can be applied to any cable. Sometimes they improve reliability and sometimes they degrade it. If you don't need ferrite cores to transfer images from your camera to your computer, you don't need them to update your firmware.
