DSC-HX20V, Missing the Battery Icon on LCD Screen

[ Edited ]

No battery icon or battery minutes remaining appear on LCD screen. I think it should appear by default regardless of mode dial function unless display selection is OFF.

Tried NP-BG1 and two NP-FG1 batteries. (I know NP-BG1 is not InfoLITHIUM).

I can't be sure if the batteries are genuine, but they don't show any signs of being counterfeit. I think counterfeit batteries still show the battery icon.

The manual does not indicate any way to purposely turn off the battery icon.

Display setting for on screen information does not make battery icon appear regardless of display selection.

When battery gets too low, cam shuts off and lens does not retract.

I performed INITIALIZE (reset to defaults). That did not help.

Other info related or not follows:

I just got the cam used and don't know it's history.

Firmware revision is 1.02, Sony shows current revision for download is 1.01

In menu, cannot change Display Resolution. It is set to HIGH.

In menu, cannot change Panel Brightness. It is set to 3 NORMAL.

In menu, cannot change Eco Mode. It is set to OFF.

These menu items are grey, not black and bold like items that I can change.

The cam seems to function fine on all modes.
