HX400V GPS

Hi All. I have purchased a DSC-HX400V. But in the menu, I can't find the setting which allows me to turn the GPS function on/off. According to the manual, it should be accesible by:

MENU(Setup) → [GPS Settings] [GPS On/Off] → desired setting

That option doesn't appear on the screen. The body of the camera has a GPS symbol on the top left hand side. The firmware is version DSC-HX400 v2.00.

Question:

why doesn't the option to turn GPS on/off appear in Setup (4th screen, underneath the Area Setting option) ?

if not there, where will it be ?

And I can't see the GPS 'satellite' symbol in the LED Screen when I stand outside.

Have I really bought a HX400V ? Where would it say on the camera body ?

Thanks for some thoughts/assistance. Paul

The "V" in the model number identifies it as a camera with GPS.

There is also a DSC-HX400 (no "V"). Is it possible that you don't actually have the "V" version?

There should be a Sony label on the bottom, that should contain the model number of your camera.

Re: HX400V GPS

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Good question. The body does say HX400V (to the right of thee the dial). The body also has the satelite GPS symbol on the top left. I wondered also whether it's actually a HX400 but all the searches I've done, seem to find the HX400V not a HX400. So I wondered if the HX400 was the name of the firmware. Assuming the body can support GPS, would a firmware upgrade resolve ? Os should I talk to Sony themselves (not for a minute suggesting you can't help). Thank. Paul

There is a firmware update to 2.10, and updating the firmware could never hurt, so I suggest you do it.

Also, if that doesn't do anything for you, you should contact support directly:

There is an HX400 (no "V") but I've never seen it for sale in the US.

If it's gray market, it's possible that you got an HX400 with HX400V cover plates.

Re: HX400V GPS

To be clear, you're not saying that the GPS option is grayed out in the menu, you're saying that it's not there. Right?

Re: HX400V GPS

Correct. The GPS On/Off option is not in the menu - at all. Anywhere in the menu.

I've tried initialising the camera but that didn't work. Paul

Re: HX400V GPS

push button [menu] [wireless] [airplane] [off], if it is [on] GPS is grey out, on the [setup] scroll down or scroll right to find [GPS settings] [GPS On/Off] [on]
