How do I delete complete folders from my DSC RX100?

I can't believe that I have to delete a couple of hundred photos, one at a time.

Hi danjeff ,

You can follow this steps to delete all the rhotos at once.

Press MENU 1 [Format] [Enter]

Note that you backup all the file contents to a computer before formatting the memory card.

In addition to Mongti's suggestion, you can also delete all images from a selected folder at once. Go to [MENU] -  1 - [Delete] -  [All in Folder].

The easiest way to delete whole folders is to remove the SD card and do it with an SD card reader on your computer. I think there's also a method to delete both files and folders on the in camera menu options but I'm not sure if your menu options are the same on your M1 model as they are on my M3 version.

Sony's owner's manual is not as comprehensive or simple to follow or understand as Alexander S. White's book "Photographer's Guide To The Sony DSC-RX100"  There's also a version for the M2 and M3 versions as well.

First go into picture review mode on the camera, then press MENU. On the 'playback' menu, press DELETE. At this point you can select 'all images this date' or 'multiple images'. In the latter case, you have the option of putting a check mark on multiple images or on complete folders. (use zoom to view a single or multiple images at one time).

This is covered in the user's manual but if you want to get a better explanation of the RX-100 operation and use, I suggest you buy Alexander S. White's book titled "Photographer's Guide To The SONY DSC-RX100" (I think there is one version for each type of RX-100 ie. M!, M2 and M3) This will give a much more understandable and clear aid to using the RX-100 system. I know the "Sony User's Guide" that comes with the camera is somewhat poor in print quality and depth of information.

Re: How do I delete complete folders from my DSC RX100?

Thanks for the recommendation. I see that the model book has been available for a couple of months now. I'll put it on my xmas list, if I can be that patient! It is unfortunate that the Sony user manual is so sparsely worded and often cryptic, and rarely with a description of how to make the best use of a function.

Re: How do I delete complete folders from my DSC RX100?

Hi,

You can delete multiple images or all images within a certain date by going to the Menu on Playback mode and selecting All with this date. To learn more about the functions on the camera, please click this Help guide. Thanks, Mitch

Re: How do I delete complete folders and contents from my DSC RX100 using computer ?

Good news this is easy if you know what to do!

There are 2 crucial settings onto camera which by default are set incorrectly!

You need to change both;

PROTECT MUST BE SWITCHED TO "OFF" FOR ALL IMAGES ;[SEE MENU OPTION >2]

MOST IMPORTANT THE SETTING FOR USB CONNECTION MUST BE SET TO "MASS STORAGE". [MENU SPANNER 2]

It only took me 2 full days to work this out! You'd think Sony would have a guide?

Thanks Barry for the only correct solution appreciate the hard work! This works on the rx1r2 model as well. They must have the same default setting for all models?
