Will there be a v1.5?

If you have a look at eBay, the number of F3 cameras is growing daily and the price is sliding! I bought in to the F3 two years ago (with an Alphatron EVF and a ****** 240) so that's as far as I'll be going, however I am concerned that my investment is soon to be redundant. Will there be a firmware version 1.5, and if so, what will it contain? Will there be anything significant or will there be just nominal enhancements?

Chirp chirp, cricket cricket. It's awesome that Sony made this forum, encouraged is to ask questions, then completely blow us off. the only thing that this tells me is they will not be upgrading the f3. I was hoping for at least 60p 1080 ...I wish SOMEONE from Sony would reply to us. (There are now two open threads with unanswered questions regarding firmware)

Re: Will there be a v1.5?

As an F3 owner/operator, I know first hand your problem here but I think the best thing to do right now is sit tight. Your camera is just as good as it was a year ago and shoots 1080 footage with all of the filmic quality it did before.

Sony has their developers focused on the F5/F55 firmware as they are rolling out the product any day now. Clearly they should be communicating more about the status of the F3, even if it is to say, "we gotta put the 1.5 firmware on hold until the F5/F55 is out the door and free of critical operational bugs."

They should tear a page out of Convergent-Design's social media handbook. They have handled their product improvements and bug fixes with grace and pananche throughout the history of their products' lifespans.

Better to spend your time getting good clients, shooting, editing and sending out invoices rather than dwelling on that which will not change in the short term.

Still no response. Come on Sony, you teased 1.5, give us an update already.

P.S. I'm not interested in anyone's advice to forget about this. Some of us are interested in the next firmware update, if you are not then don't post in this thread.

The hardware in the F3 will not allow it to increase in bit-rate, bit-depth, color space, or framerate, so I honestly am not sure what people are expecting v1.5 to do. It very well could be the final firmware update the F3 will ever see.

Re: Will there be a v1.5?

4:4:4 output and monitoring LUTs standardised across all F3s is the logical firmware update to my mind. New F3 owners get it, original SLOG upgrade purchasers have it (albeit with a bit of a shafting on price), but early adopters who bought into the camera but couldn't afford the 4:4:4 upgrade in addition to the cost of the camera are left in the cold.

It also makes for a very confusing rental market where some cameras have these features, but others don't. If I'm shooting SLOG on a multi-cam shoot, I NEED lookup tables that I can standardise across the cameras, which is tricky when only some cameras have them.

Re: Will there be a v1.5?

I would agree with you on the standardization of the RGB 4:4:4 output. Sony also went to great trouble to ask the user base about workflow improvements to the F3s menu system which they led us to believe would be rolled into a future F3 firmware upgrade. This has not materialized yet.

Re: Will there be a v1.5?

I do agree RGB 444 makes sense on the next firmware, hopefully this is the case. I still won't have a deck to record it to however,
