AXS-R7 recorder full details

[ Edited ]

All,

We are happy to release the AXS-R7 brochure, download below.

The brochure is very detailed, explaining everything about the recorder, RAW, X-OCN, the new release of RAW Viewer and our new 2nd Gen Optical Disc Archive

Details include record times, data rates, Cache recording times, X-OCN workflow, highlights of version 8 firmware and much more.

Please download and read carefully, if you still have questions about the recorder, etc, please post them below

Re: AXS-R7 recorder full details

Nice device, but it seems the engineers have missed the point of cache. Cache is something for occasions that go too fast and come too unexpected to anticipate. Tipically situations you would like to shoot with high frame rates. No need to have cache for 'normal' 25 fps situations. The usual scenery doesn't move fast...... It's the 120/240 fps second situations you would want to cache record.
Sorry, but with the cache you did not hit the nail with the R7.

Re: AXS-R7 recorder full details

Thanks for the update, Peter. Looking forward to seeing some XOCN-LT versus Class 480 tests. 16 bit linear files that are nearly the same size as Class 480 log files is very interesting.

I was also intrigued by the inclusion of 10 bit ProRes (422/HQ) on the last chart. I think that chart really helps to show off how economical Sony's codecs are bit-for-bit. The work you guys put in on the front end keeps storage costs down for us on the back-end. Even before the most recent update I felt like it was one of the more understated strengths of the F5/F55 cameras. This most recent update has doubled down on that with Class 480 being an option when keying or shooting on more demanding backgrounds and XOCN for productions demanding HDR, 2020, etc. Bravo.

Re: AXS-R7 recorder full details

Useful, thanks! But I have gotta agree with CeesVanKempen... even 3-4 seconds of cache in S&Q would help!

Like Cees, I agree that there appears to be lots to love about the R7 and 8.0 firmware update, but share his concerns re: cache record. While we'll no doubt invest in upgrading our R5, we'll keep our fingers-crossed on improved cache options.

Cheers,
Eric

Re: AXS-R7 recorder full details

Peter, can you please give us more information about potential future plans for this? In my other thread you said:

"Yes good point, we are working with engineering about this. I will inform more later about it"

Can you please, as promised, tell us what the outcome is.
