Fan Stopped message

I know this question has been asked on forums before, but none of those threads seem to display any posts or information.

Is someone able to tell me what it means in more detail when the message "Fan Stopped" pops up in viewfinder. Happens constantly, all the time.

Is this a simple fix or is it a ship it back to Sony kind of deal?

Cheers

Kirk.

Re: Fan Stopped message

In my experiance of this message .. a good blast of canned air solved the problem.. twice its happend over the last 3 years.. if it continued then I,d say you need to take it in unfortunatley .. either the spinal has a problem or a very stubborn bit of ****** stopping it turning..

Re: Fan Stopped message

I have seen "Fan Stopped" issue on several occasions and usually this is due to some foreign body such as a small blade of grass or even a hair jamming the blades of the fan.

Best method is to simply remove the top plate of the camera - 5 small screws and look into the top of the fan and remove any foreign object with a pair of tweezers.

Blasting air in to free the fan will of course blow any foreign object plus any accumulation of dust into the body of the camera where you do not really want it !

Best Regards.

Re: Fan Stopped message

Except when your shooting and the camera is about to over heat and possiby cause alot more problems ..

But yes agreed if you can take the top off.. but its such a tiny amount seems to stop the fan, I dont think its really something to worry about in a non moving parts camera.. there,s more dust going to get in taking the top off..?.. personally I,d be far more likely to drop the tiny screws into the camera Smiley Happy

Re: Fan Stopped message

Had the same message appearing few years ago. Sent the camera for Prime Support and they reported back they have changed the fan. Did not try compressed air or opening the intake back then.

Re: Fan Stopped message

Gave it a good blow with just my mouth and fan started straight away and been shooting all morning with no problems.

Thanks everyone.

I'll open it up and have a decent look to make sure I haven't just blown stuff further inside.

Glad it worked.. actually one time I did just blow into the vents.. its only ever going to be something very tiny in there ..so personally I think more dust will get in taking the top off.. and having to once take the side off to replace the internal battery.. I wouldnt recommend taking any panels off unless you know what you were doing (which I didnt ).. !  not for the faint hearted..
