Re: NEW Firmware Version 9.0 for F5, F55

Arlene your posts have been very helpful to me in the past. I hope one chap with a broken Caps lock button doesn't stop you helping in the future. Cheers

Re: NEW Firmware Version 9.0 for F5, F55

Can we try to be a little more civil, as though you were talking face to face to someone?

Arlene, please don't validate someone's lack of manner by cutting off. As with most professional forums, the moderators usually have other jobs and work in forum responses as time permits - certainly true on AVID and some others. We have all been frustrated at times wishing for quick answers from Sony, but there has been a lot of it over the years, and some of it very critical. I don't know your background, but I am familiar with Peter's, and few in our digital cinema world know more about these complex ,cameras than he (and possibly you) do, so most of us would like to continue to hear advice whenever possible.

For others on the forum - this iforum is not part of a service agreement with Sony, and many of the answers to questions can be found elsewhere on the internet or from dealers like AbelCine. Usually one-off problems, as seen above, are not caused by Sony. There is a wealth of information from many experienced users here (Doug, Dennis, etc) and the forum can only survive if everyone acts as if they were on a good set. It sounds like maybe some people have been watching too much TV -

Re: NEW Firmware Version 9.0 for F5, F55

Regarding V9 - how do you feel about multiple camera resets after loading the firmware?  Is this still a necessary step as we did in earlier versions?

Thank you in advance -

Re: NEW Firmware Version 9.0 for F5, F55

Hi guys,

I'm currenty running V7.01 on my F5 and looking to update to version 9.0

It says to update to V8 before V9 but the V8 software link on the page below does not seem to exist.

See here - https://community.sony.com/t5/F5-F55/NEW-Version-8-firmware/td-p/594579

Also the V8 firmware is missing from the sony website - https://pro.sony.com.au/pro/support/software/SET_BPE-SS-1038/200

Am I missing something? Can anybody give me a heads up on this?

Thanks

Steve

Re: NEW Firmware Version 9.0 for F5, F55

Yes, Steve,

That is very curious.

Even when one is logged in on the ServicesPLUS website, the links to both PMWF5 and PMWF55 are broken.

I can assure you that the links were working when the Version 9.0 update was released.

It could be that the website, or a portion of it, is being revised.

But, it wouldn't hurt to contact the POSC[Product Operations Support Centre] or whatever the equivalent is in your country [Australia, is it?].

Best regards,
Will

Make sure you're not trying to upgrade to 8 by yourself if you have early serial number. It will brick your camera and result in chargeable repair.

Re: NEW Firmware Version 9.0 for F5, F55

Hi Steven,

If you are in Australia, then I strongly recommend that you contact the S/Aus Service Centre in Newington for them to do the upgrade for you.

Upgrade from V7.01 to V8.01/9.00 is free of charge and the responsibility becomes theirs if something goes wrong!

Unless you have an 0120xxx serial number, upgrade via a Service Center is mandatory otherwise you will brick the camera. However even if you have a later serial number I still recommend letting S/Aus do this for you.

Contact Sony Aus in Newington (Sydney) on 02 9878 9743.

Best Regards.

Re: NEW Firmware Version 9.0 for F5, F55

Peter-

I have a different but related question. If a camera is incorrectly upgraded what anomalies can happen? I am looking at a used but very good condition PMW-F55. This internal menu does not show the ID on the page which I would expect within the system menus.

Could this be locked out?

The menu should show the camera ID under System> Option> then the fourth item down under 8.01 correct?

So what if it is NOT showing up?

This is a very early camera in the factory upgrade range.

Thanks,

Tim

Re: NEW Firmware Version 9.0 for F5, F55

I don't think ID shows on the F55 under Option. I believe it is there on the F5 as it is required info for the 4K upgrade license.
From experience, if an upgrade fails then you do not get anomalies - it fails!
Serial number will show at Service level.
Best Regards.
