NEW Firmware v1.10 with release notes

[ Edited ]

All,

We have released version 1.10 of the F5, F55 firmware, and AXS-R5 firmware. Please carefully read the release notes, download the documentation together with the firmware below.

Special thanks to Sr. Product Managers Juan Martinez and Kazuo Endo for writing the detailed release notes

Regards

Peter

F55/F5 Ver. 1.10 Release Notes

Image processing improvement:

  1. Corrected; the “black edge on highlights” issue. This fault may occur on high-brightness transitions when shooting with HyperGamma or S-Log2 gamma.

Operational improvement:

  1. New software prevents the camera from occasionally freezing when holding down any of the following keys: PREV, EXT, F.FWD, F.REV, PAUSE, STOP & THUMBNAIL

2. Metadata handling improvements:

2.1 RDD 18 -Gamma for CDL- data accuracy improvement.

The value of the “Gamma for CDL” parameter as specified in SMPTE RDD 18 - Acquisition Metadata Sets for Video Camera Parameters - may be incorrectly registered as “S‑Log2”. Version 1.10 correctly registers the value as: “Content Video”

2.2 Audio Rec Port name correction.

The AV Format tab always displays the Audio Rec Port name as “DIRECT” on the Content Browser preview window. Version 1.10 correctly indicates: “ANALOG” for Audio Channel 1/2 and “OTHERS” for other channels.

2.3 Extended UMID - Source Pack - Time and Date.

The camera registers metadata compliant with SMPTE ST 330 -Unique

Material Identifier- (UMID). A scribal error was found in the description of

Extended UMID- Source Pack-Time and Date. The Time Zone indication is always (UTC-09:00 Alaska). Version 1.10 correctly changes the UMID Time Zone according to the setting of the camera’s System-Clock.

3. Salvaged Clip Playback improvements.
The following issues were resolved:

3.1 The camera fails to playback a salvaged clip of 15 minutes or longer duration.

3.2 Content Browser fails to playback a salvaged clip.

4. SxS card corruption when using Content Browser for Mac V. 2.0.
Prevents “SxS card becomes inaccessible by the camera” after using SxS card adapter models SBAC-US20 or SBAC‑US10 for browsing and playing back clips on a Mac lacking SxS UDF driver version 2.11.

To prevent data corruption of SxS cards captured using cameras with firmware versions prior to 1.10, it is strongly recommended to install the SxS UDF driver Ver. 2.11 for Mac located here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/sxsudfdriver

Note: AXS-R5 recorders are part of the camera system; it must also be updated to version 1.10.

Firmware Update Procedure for PMW-F55 & F5

  1. Download the appropriate update for your model (F5 or F55) to your computer:
    PMW-F55: PMW-F55_Cannes_1.10_24_2013-03-04_00-36-41_firmware.bin
    PMW-F5: PMW-F5_Cannes_1.10_23_2013-03-04_00-46-51_firmware.bin

2. Unzip the contents of the downloaded file into an empty folder.

3. Connect the camera to a power supply. It is recommended to also attach a fully charged battery as a backup in case of a power service failure. The camera may not power up again if power is lost during the update procedure.

4. Insert an SD card on the camera to be updated.

5. Invoke the menu, navigate to “Media” and then execute “Format” SD card”.

6. Remove the freshly formatted SD card from the camera, insert it in the computer and copy the unzipped *.bin file to the root of the SD card.

7. Insert the card in the camera, invoke the menu, navigate to and enter “System”.

8. Next navigate to “Version” and execute “Version UP”

9. From this point on, do not disconnect or turn the camera power off!!!

10. The viewfinder and side panel LCD will indicate the update progress and elapsed time.

11. After a few minutes, the camera will indicate that the firmware update completed successfully and direct to cycle the power OFF/ON (reboot).

12. Verify the firmware version by navigating to System/Version menu.

If you don’t feel confident to perform the firmware update, you can bring or ship the unit to a Sony Professional Service Depot. There is no charge for the firmware itself, but labor chargers will apply.

AXS-R5 Ver. 1.10 Release Notes

Functional Improvements:

  1. Improved stability when the AXS Memory card is ejected too early.
The AXS-R5 becomes unstable if the AXS Memory card is ejected before the write cycle completes. It can no longer detect if the card is mounted or not.
  2. Improved Stability when recording unexpectedly stops.
The AXS-R5 becomes unstable if the card is ejected during recording or when recording stops once the memory card is full.
  3. Embedded Audio Control Packet on the HD-SDI signal from AUX OUT terminal.
The embedded data on the HD-SDI is updated per frame when in interlace mode. The data must be updated per field and it is fixed by V1.10.

For more details about SDI -embedded audio control packet-, see SMPTE299M-1997 document.

Firmware Update Procedure for AXS-R5

NOTE: The R5 is half of the camera system. The camera firmware must be updated to Ver.1.10 as well.

  1. Download “AXS-R5_v110_official.zip”.
  2. Unzip the contents of the downloaded file into an empty folder. “R5_1.10_1271-AXS.f.bin” file is generated.

Download “AXSM Drive Utility” here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/axsmdriver

3. Install “AXSM Drive Utility” and restart your computer.

4. Insert an AXS Memory in AXS-R5 and invoke the camera menu, navigate to “Media” and then execute “Format” “AXS Memory”

5. Connect AXS memory card reader (AXS-CR1) to your computer.

6. Press the tact switch at the bottom of the AXS-CR1. When the switch is pressed, the LED of AXS-CR1 blinks in orange.

CR1.png

7. Insert the AXS Memory Card in AXS-CR1 memory card reader.

8. Start AXSM Drive Utility, and select the media in the tree display.

9. Select [R5 Firmware] from the [Tools] menu. The dialog box for selecting the update file appears.

10. Select update file which you unzipped at #2 procedure, and click the [OK] button. Copying of the file starts.

11. When the process is complete, click the [OK] button.

12. Remove the AXS-R5 from the camera and use recommended AC adaptor such as AC-DN10 or AC-DN2B, to supply power via the DC IN connector to the adaptor. Upgrading using battery pack power is not supported.

13. Insert the AXS memory card with the update data into the recorder.

14. Remove the BT cap on the bottom of the recorder, and hold the version-up button.

15. Release the version-up button when TALLY lamp and ACCESS lamp are lit. Then, the upgrading starts.

16. Upgrading will take approximately 15 minutes.

17. The TALLY lamp blinks every second once the upgrade is completed.

18. If the upgrade failed, the TALLY lamp blinks every four seconds. In this case, carefully review the procedure and execute the update again.

If you don’t feel confident to perform the firmware update, you can bring or ship the unit to a Sony Professional Service Depot. There is no charge for the firmware itself, but labor chargers will apply.

Re: NEW Firmware v1.10 with release notes

Is there anyway to check if the R5 firmware is being upgraded to v1.10? My R5 tally light remains flashing RED every seconds after upgrading and the only way to shut down was to remove the battery, is that normal/correct?

Re: NEW Firmware v1.10 with release notes

I found a bug today on F55 v1.10 firmware.

Once you come out of clip view mode and back to camera, if you had zebra stripes before going into clip view mode when you come out they are disabled. And if you had zebras assigned to one of the quick assign buttons the yellow light is on indicating the zebras are enabled even though they are not.

The fix is to then disable the zebras and enable again using the quick assign button.

Re: NEW Firmware v1.10 with release notes

The zebra bug was there before 1.10 and also happens if you display bars on the viewfinder... switch back to camera and the zebra's are gone!  Funny thing is, you can't bring them back with the main menu, so if you haven't set up a quick assign button the only option is camera off/on again.

Did you follow these steps?

Yes, you can check to see your version of your firmware, in "MENU", then "SYSTEM", and then "AXS Recorder". It will show you the firmware version there.

Re: NEW Firmware v1.10 with release notes

hi

I experience the same problem.

Also my AXSM card does not dismount corectly from the mac desktop. After I insert the icon in the trash the mac the icon still remains on the desktop. If you try to eject it the computer crash.

I have tryied this several times.

I suppose that the two issues are connected together?
