Re: NEW VERSION 7.01 FIRMWARE

@WillH Isn't Gamut referring to the colour range the camera is recording and Gamma is the distribution of shades of grey?

@Nick interesting! How did you work that out? Scopes? Chart?

Re: NEW VERSION 7.01 FIRMWARE

Hey, Nez,

Technically, I guess you are right.  I'm not an expert on colour science.  In my understanding, gamma is the combination of the levels of saturation of the colours that allows them to be reproduced accurately relative to a standard. The relationship is represented by a mathematical function.  I haven't done this level of math in 40 years.  But, I think, mathematically, gamma is a derivative of that function that would indeed correspond to grey levels.

Fortunately, I live in a time when there are some great younger, more mathematically-fit, minds and capable programmers who can work it all out to provide editing software where I can just manipulate the controls and get the results I want.  Aren't we lucky?

Best regards,
Will

Hi, all,

There is no button for centercrop...BUT it is in the quickmenu, which is an improvement ! :-)

This is a good thing, actually the right way to do it. If, you change to 2K Centre Scan, a couple of other parameters may have to change depending on the settings you had before the change. If the changes are necessary, they are done automatically.  With this function being within the Quick Menus, you see, within the relative menu, the other parameters that change.  When you change to another scan mode, you will have, in front of you in the menu, the other parameters you may want to change, such as Recording Format, for your subsequent shots.

It may be considered a convenience to have one-button, change and revert facility for 2K Centre Scan. But, since it may actually involve changing several parameters, I think the visual reminder of these changes in the Quick Menu, is important for maintaining situational awareness in the operation of the camera.

Just my humble opinion...

Best regards,
Will

Re: NEW VERSION 7.01 FIRMWARE

The more I consider what I wrote above, and what I have discovered, so far, browsing through the manual, the menus and the quick menus, I think the engineers and the rest of the team at Sony have done an excellent job with this update.

A round of applause is deserved!

Re: NEW VERSION 7.01 FIRMWARE

Agreed, they have done an excellent job! Really great.

Not 100% perfect though, room for a couple of small tweaks still (not with the camera generally, I mean with the things that are new as of v7.01).

1. This: http://community.sony.com/t5/F5-F55/Possible-bug-glitch-with-Quick-Menu-v7-01/td-p/550330/jump-to/fi...

2. What Jack suggested here: http://community.sony.com/t5/F5-F55/Bug-Report-Firmware-v7-01/m-p/550369#M31076

3. For those of us who don't use Sony's EVFs the "Viewfinder" page of the Quick Menu is pointless, and thus a little bit of a waste of real estate. Might I suggested making this page user customisable? Remove the "User Menu" in the main menu, and replace it with 8 user definable options on this page of the "Quick Menu". Thoughts? Appreciate this may not be ideal for those who use the Sony EVFs, but if it's user customisable, then they could just add those options back in themselves!

Re: NEW VERSION 7.01 FIRMWARE

I have to add my appreciation for the contined support for this camera. I've been very pleased with the outstanding images the F55 can produce, and with not too much effort once you get with the Sony way of doing things. Most of the busted shots are fault of the operator - me - rarely shortcomings with the camera. Perfect? No. But a ****** good camera which has served me well around the world. Hat's off to Sony on this one.

Will,

I'm curious to know what parameters are you referrring to?   I use Center Scan on my F55 all the time and I don't really ever change any other parameters when I turn it on or off. What else do you change, and why?

Also, one-push Center Scan works great on my FS5.  No reason we shouldn't want to have that same convenience on the F55.
