Re: Shooting RAW

[ Edited ]

Hey Robbie,

I like you go by monitor.  I constantly use the false colors on my onboard monitor to keep consistency (As I used to do with a spot meter).  As long as my exposures are consistent and within the range I want them (S-Log 3, LC709 TypeA) I know that the RAW will have a lot more leeway.  I find this especially helpful with the highlights.  Let me know how it goes.

I shot my last feature RAW on the F55.  You can see the trailer here:

Best,

Johnny

Re: Shooting RAW

As a general guide I shoot raw greenscreen using 800EI(F5) or 500EI(F55) and the 709(800) LUT. I put white at 85-90%, middle grey at 43%, skin tones at 65-70% and the green around 55% (LUT levels). That would equate to approx white 71%, Skin 55-60%, Green Screen 53% and 50% Middle Grey for S-Log3.

I may use a faster shutter perhaps 1/100th or equivalent to crispen up motion a bit, but that will depend on the background plate and how the shot is supposed to look.
