Re: Sony MDR-1000X left side of bracket broken in 10 days

[ Edited ]

I have exactly the same problem with my MDR-1000x within 2 and half months!!!!!!!

Sony says it is a "total loss" which "could not have happened by itself". Sony offered me to pay 349 dollars to buy a new pair or I have to pay 41 dollars just to get my broken ones back!

The only FREE service from SONY is to destroy my broken MDR-1000X for me! - NOT JOKING!

That's kinda unbelievable. Could you post some photos here? Where is your Sony Service locate?

I live in Europe. As the moderator has already pointed out that sony North America can not be much of assistance.

Exactly the same problem here in the Netherlands.  The Sony Service Center will 'repair' it for EUR 331 (strangely, exactly the price for a new set).  They see it as 'forcing damage' - i.e. that I tried to force the headphone to bend in some unforeseen direction.

My colleague is the only other person I know with these headphones, and guess what:

There is quite a collection of this type of damage on the Dutch site Tweakers.net:

Amazon:

So - either all of these people are abusing their headphones or the product has a flaw...

Re: Sony MDR-1000X left side of bracket broken in 10 days

I'm so surprised a lot of people having this kind of problem. I have the same issue, its always the LEFT headband part i think is the problem. i'm really dismayed as its the first time i purchased a costly investment on headphones. i was reluctant choosing this over bose quiet comfort but right now i'm so frustrated. i'm a sony fan, my phones, are always sony. BUT now i'm having doubts over sony products. right now i'm wondering where i can buy spare parts. i'm almost out of options. i tried any glue, UV GLUES not just plastic super glues. and even sugru (rubber self hardening polymer) but didn't work. I'm now looking for people who offers to replicate spare parts overseas. if someone can recommend me buying a part or what, i would be happy to avail this service. middle east sony isn't also a help. instead, the call center is a timid soft spoken little girl who gave a trouble shoot that my phone was the problem, not the headset (well my phone is sony) but ******, my headset is physically broken and it suddenly popped!!

Maybe you can try velcro to fix. Both side is better. Like this guy: (Chinese but you get the idea)

Re: Sony MDR-1000X left side of bracket broken in 10 days

I bought mine two months ago from a local BestBuy and just noticed a crack on the right side too.  I use it at the office nearly every day.  I have always taken very good care of them as I do with all of my electronics.  This is the most expensive set of headphones I've ever purchased and the only ones to ever break.  Learned my lesson.

Hi JoffreyS,

Sony Netherlands has refused to repair or refund my broken earphone, because  "... SONY products are made with best quality material and are all tested therefore it can not break under normal use".

It is such ridiculous reasoning. Why on earth does sony provide warranty then?

I know I may not get assistance from SONY America... but still, your colleague in Europe carries the name of SONY and

they are damaging the image which SONY as a whole has built up.

What a shame and what a pity!
