CD player set up

I purchased a Sony 5 disc CD player and a set of bookshelf speakers.  This is definitely not my area of expertise!  Do I need to have an amplifier or receiver to make these work together?  The player has pin connections and the speakers have wire clip connections.

You can use just an amp /or receiver Connect the Cd player R&L Out  (to amp /or receiver) R & L- In-Connect Two wires (from) Each Speaker to Speaker A Right & Left- Turn on the amp/receiver -put in a Cd and adjust the Volume.

Amp is just for Amplification a Receiver is AMP + Am/FM Tuner (receiver.)

Pin Connections (are) RCA Cords RED & WHITE

Speaker Wire Can be any Color 10- 16 gague wire (or Lamp Cord) Striped to br wound or inserted into the posts.
