Re: HT-CT260H HDMI ARC issues with an LG 55LA7400 Smart TV

I can echo this person's situation as I have had a similar experience with my LG LM7600 TV and the CT-260H soundbar.

I have a Dish Hopper and a LG LM7600 TV (with an ARC HTMI port). I connected my ARC capable HTMI cable between the appropriate port on the sound bar and the LG TV. When I put the Dish Hopper into another HTMI port on the TV, I could get a picture, but no sound (regardless of setting onn the soundbar - and, believe me, I tried them all). When I put the Dish Hopper into the "In" HTMI port on the sound bar, I had sound, but no picture. When I plugged the Dish Hopper back into the extra HTMI port and then ran another HTMI cable from another HTMI port on the TV to the "in" port on the sound bar. The good news is that I had sound, and could control the sound bar through the TV remote.....for about 10 seconds, then the TV's settings automatically kicked back to "TV Speaker".

I think the issue is, as this person inferred, some incompatibility/conflict between the Simplink and Bravia contol signals, perhaps?

Re: HT-CT260H HDMI ARC issues with an LG 55LA7400 Smart TV

I own an LG 55LW5700 and have the same issue.  I've spent hours troublshooting, searching online forums, and tried sony's online chat, which was not helpful.

There IS a problem between LG and this Sony soundbar.  The only way sound comes out of the soundbar is to enter its C-HDMI settings, turn it Off and then immediately back to On.  This has to be repeated every time the soundbar is turned off.

Is anyone at Sony recognizing this problem or finding a solution?  I am going to have to return it to the store if Sony can't provide an answer, and soon.

Re: HT-CT260H HDMI ARC issues with an LG 55LA7400 Smart TV

Question for the Sony CS help.

Can I use the HDMI and Optical functiion together on this sound bar. For Example: Can I plug my cable box via HDMI into the 'Input' on the sound bar and then an HDMI cable from the 'Output' on the sound bar to the TV. Then plug in an optical cable from the TV to the Sound bar. This way I can get audio from the soundbar when watching cable TV via HDMI and I can audio from the sound bar from my DVD player via optical. Can I do this without screwing anything up?

@kbyrd To confirm, if the TV and Soundbar are on and the TV is turned off, does it also turn the Soundbar off?

@t3dfish Yes you could run all your devices to the TV via HDMI, and then run an optical cable from the TV to the Soundbar. Set your TV settings to output all sound via your optical out connection on the TV. Set the Soundbar to Optical and all sounds from the TV should be heard via the Soundbar.

Re: HT-CT260H HDMI ARC issues with an LG 55LA7400 Smart TV

@C8AQ Can I use the HDMI and Optical function together on this sound bar? Have both HDMI and Optical cables plugged into the soundbar then connected to the TV?

I want to use the HDMI function for my cable box only and then use the Optical for my DVD player.  Can I do this?

The sound bar has an HDMI 'IN' and and HDMI 'OUT'. I want to connect my cable box to the HDMI 'IN' and then the HDMI 'OUT' to my TV.  Instead of using the ARC function on the soundbar, I just want to use the HDMI function only.

Then I want to plug in an Optical cable from the sound bar to the TV so when I'm watching a DVD I can have sound from the soundbar when using the Optical function on the soundbar.

Yes, you can do exactly what you have described. I might suggest just running the cable box directly to the TV just like your DVD player and using just the optical from the TV to the Soundbar. Running the cable box to the soundbar is redundent if you are already going to have optical from the TV to the Soundbar.

@C8AQ - Sorry I can't be sure now - I've tried so many different ways of turning on and off, and in a different order that I am not sure if the LG remote also turned off the soundbar.  I can't check it any longer because my husband just got fed up with all my troubleshooting, and my online chat experience with Sony left me with a very negative opinion, so today, we returned the soundbar to the store.

If it will help anyone else, I'd be happy to answer any questions or tell you what I tried.

I can say that no matter matter what was connected, how it was connected, what types of cables were used, what order the devices were turned on - NONE of it mattered.  SimpleLink and C-HDMI  (brand names for HMDI-CEC) were both on. ARC was on. The tv sound did not automatically switch from TV to Soundbar.  I could manually switch it to HT Speaker in the LG SimpLink menu, but it would switch back to TV Speaker after about 5-10 seconds.  Finally I discovered that if I went into the soundbar's C-HDMI menu and turned it OFF, then immediately back ON, the sound would switch to the soundbar and stay there - until I turned the soundbar off.

I believe the problem is with the soundbar, not the LG tv because I had Sony's soundbar CT150 connected to it before and it worked just fine.

Not that this is a big deal, but the IR pass-thru never worked either (and it was set to On)

@C8AQ Won't I lose some encoding formats like Dolby Digital HD or DTS HD if I just use optical?

I'm concerned we're losing the main question of this thread - is there a compatability issue between LG's Simplink and the Bravia OS? Is Sony aware of this and are they attempting to address it? Yes, I can use the Opitcal Cable and get sound - but that kind of defeats the purpose of the ARC HTMI functionality.
