Re: HTRT5 Lip-Syncing. Is there a fix?

mdr3939, everyones happy to share information and try any workaround but you have to be realistic. This thread has been going for 2 months with no real progress and the net is full of forums like this that continue for months and years without resolution.

The 2015 customer rights act marks 6 months as a important milestone as well as obviously end of warranty, so sitting on the problem is a real bad move IMO - contacting the retailer early is really important. It is an expensive product and the problem is a serious one to say the least.

SONY customer support say "there are no known issues with the device" despite being aware of this thread - so you need to be aware of your rights and be prepared to fight for them !

I'm sorry didn't know this. In Belgium and the rest of the EU warranty rules are different.

We have 2 years of warranty.

Re: HTRT5 Lip-Syncing. Is there a fix?

Currys - Knowhow team just phoned - Basicly was told to take the Soundbar into store who will send for repair or will talk to sony direct about a fix (I did advise there wasnt one), He said that it would be replaced then.

Re: HTRT5 Lip-Syncing. Is there a fix?

dpc1979, thanks for that - I got a similar reply in email form. Of course my main concern is that they have a quick play for 10 minutes, don't see the problem and declare theres no fault. I believe one person on the forum already had this experience.

It seems for some disabling the internet connection and rebooting may temporarily cure the problem. Thus deleting personal data, unplugging and taking to currys may have that effect. Video footage of the problem combined with this forum should be good evidence - but doubt it will be seen that way.

If you take it in let me know how you get on ! Thanks.

Re: HTRT5 Lip-Syncing. Is there a fix?

Update:

As I mentioned on here last week I recently bought a new Xbox One S, so I have had the occasion to change my signal path several times to try to find a good solution to a few things, including the A/V sync problem we're discussing here.

The Xbox One S offers not only 4K video, but HDR10 (UHD color) if you're outputting to a compatible display and your receiver/switcher/soundbar has HDMI 2.0a ports which are capable of passing through 4K HDR10 content.  Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though the HT-RT5 HDMI ports are 2.0a because the Xbox does NOT recognize the display/TV as HDR-capable when connected through the soundbar.

Sidenote for Chris/@SonyHAV:  Can you tell me what version the HDMI ports are on the HT-RT5?  And are there plans to release a firmware update to upgrade them to 2.0a, if they are not already?  I understand HDMI ports can be upgraded from 2.0 to 2.0a via firmware.

So since I can't passthrough HDR10/UHD Color using the HT-RT5, I am forced to connect my STB/Xbox to my TV via HDMI and then send audio back to the HT-RT5 via the optical audio output.  This is not optimal for a number of reasons, but mainly because I lose all ARC/handshaking between devices and have to use 3 remote controls instead of 1.  THAT ******.

However, on the plus side, my A/V sync issues have MOSTLY disappeared when using the optical audio out and with the network adapters (wired and wireless) disconnected.  Since Thursday evening last week I have only seen sync issues a handful of times and they have been pretty easily resolved by pausing/unpausing content or by engaging the A/V sync menu and then exiting it.

I want to be clear though....this is a workaround and not a solution.  However, being forced to use optical out to send audio back to the HT-RT5 made me realize that the latency that occurs over optical is less troubling than over HDMI/ARC.  That may help some users on here to not lose their minds quite so badly until this is fixed.

SUMMARY:  Connecting my Xbox/STB directly to the TV and using Optical Audio Out from the TV to send back to the HT-RT5 has made the audio sync drift/latency a bit more manageable, though it has not entirely eliminated it.

And will these HDMI ports ever support HDR10/UHD Color??

By the way, the forum censored the word s-u-c-k-s from the end of the 4th paragraph of my last post.  I smell a conspiracy!

Re: HTRT5 Lip-Syncing. Is there a fix?

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that we are still attempting to replicate the condition that you are experiencing.

I have provided some contact information to my Sony European counterparts to see if they can replicate in their region (most of the forum members are from EU).

I've also been working with local forum member in US to replicate without success.

We are continuing to attempt to determine how to replicate this condition and what the Root Cause is.

I appreciate everyone's support in helping to improve our products and your patience in this matter.

==============================================

Hello lukezra,

On the HTRT5, only the HDMI IN 1 and the HDMI OUT (ARC) are HDCP 2.2 complaint for 4K support, including HDR.

I tested in house without any problems with a Sony XBR55X930D Television and Samsung UBD-K8500 4K BluRay Player.  I do not have your Samsung UN60JS7000FXZA to directly test, but there may be an issue with the HDMI Handshake.  You can disconnect your HDMI cables then power cycle your 4K HDR Source, the Soundbar, and Television.  If this doesn't work, there may be an issue with the communication and you can attempt the following Setting changes in the Soundbar.

Screen Settings > 4k Output from Auto1 to Auto2

Screen Settings > Video Direct to ON

==============================================

Thank you,

Chris

Re: HTRT5 Lip-Syncing. Is there a fix?

Thanks, Chris.  I will try your suggestions over this weekend, hopefully.

One thing, however, I think HDCP 2.2 relates to the decoding of copy-protected 4K content, not the capacity to pass HDR color.  From my research, though admittedly limited, the indication is that the version of the HDMI port itself is the determinant and version 2.0a is required.

Nevertheless, I will give your recommendation a try when I have some time this weekend, although I will be all over the place.

Thanks again for the advice.

Re: HTRT5 Lip-Syncing. Is there a fix?

Update.

After reinstalling my setup,  completely disconnecting the HT RT5 from the internet  and Reset -> Initalize personal information I haven't been experiencing the SYNC problem for ocer a week anymore. Altough this isn't a guarantee for the future since earlier trials of workarounds have me a temporarely solution. But now the period of no more sync problem seems never to have been so long now.

Like I said I changed my setup like this :

Sony KDL40 NX 800 via HDMI4 to HDMI ARCport on  Sony HTRT5

Sony BDP S7200 via HDMI to HDMIport 1 on Sony HT RT5

Telenet STB AD2100 via HDMI to HDMI3 port on Sony HT RT5

So no more optical cable and eliminated the ARC connection from TV to HT RT5
