Re: STR-DN1050 and Music Center

Erin,
The issue is very well explained. Sony is dropping a feature that was part of the Sony STR DN1050.
Do you also need my SN? And remaining detail? What for?
Thanks

Re: STR-DN1050 and Music Center

This is absolutlely embarrassing for Sony.  My DN850 is only 3 years old and the one of the main reasons I bought it was for the app control.  This will be the last time I ever purchase a Sony product for our household.

It can happen to any company. Sony customer care is very good and they will help it out.

Re: STR-DN1050 and Music Center

Have you read the any of this discussion at all meherlaila?

Sony customer care has already commented here that the new updates to the Music Center app will leave the DN850 and other receivers unable to be controlled over a smartphone.

Re: STR-DN1050 and Music Center

Aside from a better app and support, another big advantage of the Pioneer is that when you tune it with the microphone it will apply EQ in addition to the speaker volume/level and phase matching like the Sony.

I'd lost the microphone for my Pioneer SC-25 and was able to auto-EQ my old Pioneer with my son's new Pioneer 102 mic. It makes my old Velodyne Deco 5.1 speaker system in the basement sound so much more refined.

I'm not ready to jump ship on Sony, but if they don't keep up support for their App on my 1060 and 1070 for many more years to come, they'll push me into the arms of their competitors.

I bought these to replace my Sony 540 which didn't have app support, and when I bought my 1070 I was appalled to discover that my front USB could no longer be used as a digital dock for my iPhone like the 1060 that replaced my 540.

Sony's response was that they have no intention to return iPod functionality to the front USB port, even though it should sound better with high res music than airplay or Bluetooth.

Re: STR-DN1050 and Music Center

Ps: I still own every receiver I've bought since 2005, including a Yamaha, Denon AVR1804, Pioner SC-25, and 3 Sony (STRDN540/1060/1070).

The newest two Sony are the only ones I actively use in the theater and master bedroom. I'd hate to have to replace the Sony's with Pioneer when they stop supporting my products. But I will is forced to.

The whole thing is a freakin joke! My STR DN1050 is just 2 years old and now Sony is leaving me with no app support?! I'll do my best to stop my family and friends from buying Sony products. It's not revenge - it's just reasonable. Maybe Sony  geniuses don't know mobile app applications is something like a STANDARD today?

It's a disgrace to handle the case like this!!!
