STR-DN1080 and Apple TV 4k

Does anyone know how to configure the receiver to let Apple
Tv 4k use HDR? I keep trying to enable it on the Apple TV but it says the display won't support hdr and I have a brand new 4k hdr Sony tv.

Well I haven’t been able to get it to work on 60hz but if you go into the Apple TV settings then video menu, you try switching to 4k HDR 30hz and it seems to have worked for me. I still hope there’s a solution for 60hz

Hi. Yes, that worked for me. I switched to 4k HDR 30hz and it worked. What’s the difference between 60 and 30hz and could it be my projector doesn’t support anything above 30hz?

Re: STR-DN1080 and Apple TV 4k

I believe it’s the refresh rate... 30hz = 30 frames per second, 60hz = 60 frames per second. My tv can support 120 and it looks like Apple TV 4k can support 60, but the receiver will only allow passthrough of 30 unless there is a setting somewhere to change it.

Did you try connecting your Apple TV directly to your tv to see if 60hz works, bypassing your receiver?

Haven’t tried that. I’m sure it’d work, but then it bypasses the whole reason I have a receiver to use my home theater.

Re: STR-DN1080 and Apple TV 4k

I totally agree with you. I’m thinking along the lines of process of elimination - confirm first if the 60hz setting works when directly connecting your tv to your Apple TV, then you will have fully confirmed whether it’s the tv or your receiver, then you know which company to pursue.

I looked at the specs of my projector, and from what I can tell it appears it supports 60hz, or frames per second, so I’m still puzzled why it only works when set to 30hz. Maybe Apple has to issue a compatibility update after they see all the complaints in the various forums.

Make sure you go into the "wonderful" andriod TV settings on your sony TV and go to you HDMI settings and whatever one your reciever is plugged into is on "ENHANCED MODE", it worked for me.  Not sue why the operating system isn't smart enough to just figure out the signal.

Re: STR-DN1080 and Apple TV 4k

It took a while but I was able to find the hdmi setting and change it to enhanced. Apple TV recognized it right away. Thanks for the help!
