Hello. I have a Sony DAV c700 5 disk DVD player. It won't play most new DVDs and doesn't function correctly with every other DVD we play on it. Is there any way we can update the firmware to fix this issue? If not, can you tell me which players we can buy that are compatable with the speakers used on this system or what specs I should be looking for when replacing the unit (and keep the surround system as is).

Make sure that the discs that you are trying to play are compatible with the DAV-C700 Compact AV System. The compatible format of DVD discs are:
The system cannot play the following discs:
• CD-ROMs (PHOTO CDs included) • All CD-Rs other than music and VCD format CD-Rs • Data part of CD-Extras • DVD-ROMs • DVD Audio discs • A DVD with a different region code • A disc that has a non-standard shape (e.g., card, heart) • A disc with paper or stickers on it. • A disc that has the adhesive, cellophane tape, or a sticker still left on it.
If you are trying to play a compatible disc and still having issues with it, you can refer to the below link for the possible troubleshooting steps.
