April 18 update brings more bugs. Do not update!

What kind of half-baked firmwares are you pushing???

Get your stuff together, Sony. Stop breaking TV's.

Agree that this is an unfortunate slip-up on Sony's part - clearly not enough testing on this update for some configurations. I had no issues, as many others, but in some cases problems you report occur.

Luckily there is an easy fix that a member (PaulGo) of the AVS Forums 850C thread discovered, and I've spelled out the detailed steps below.

Steps:

1. Press the "Help" button on the remote
2, Select the "Troubleshooting" option
3. Select "Settings" from the list of options on the left side of the screen
4. Select "Configuring the TV"
5. Select "[TV]"
6. Select "Jump to the Settings screen"
7. Scroll to the right and select "Apps"
8. Scroll down to the "System apps" row
9. Find "System Software Update" in the app list (it's alphabetical)
10. Select that app
11. Choose the option to "Clear data" and confirm

That should do it. Once you clear data on the System Software Update app you should have full access to your Home screen, menus, etc.

Other than that intermittent install glitch this appears in my early use to be a solid update of the Marshmallow release.

Thank you. Just performed the sequence above and got the home screen back.

Thank you so much. I'm not angry at Sony any more

It's a garbage update, netflix button stopped working and wireless connection needs to be manually selected once you turn the TV on. Every. Single. Time. I'm going to do a factory reset and disable updates. Sony have no idea what they are doing. Every time I update my "smart" TV it's gets "dumber" / more broken!

After last update Sony wi-fi network decided it would not work again, and will not recognise correct p/word but can "see"router with 5 band signal strength. All i get is "failed". Well I know who gets the "fail" Sony! Sony KDL-55W650D.

Re: April 18 update brings more bugs. Do not update!

Hi Bryce1955

Does your router support the WIFI Protected Setup (WPS) feature?

NOTE: Some manufactures may use the following terms instead of WPS (Push Button) to describe this function.

  • Wi-Fi Simple Config
  • Push 'n' Connect
  • PBC
  • Quick Secure Setup (QSS)

If yes, you can try connect the network using the WPS method which you can refer to this FAQ link which will have a step-by-step guide on how to do it.

Hope this works for you. Thanks!

Regards

Ann
