Hulu no longer supported on my Sony Blu-Ray player , regrettably

My Sony BDP-S590 is less than five years old. For four of those years, it supported Hulu generic , Hulu Plus and early on , Hulu paid streams. Now it does not. I've lost Hulu accessibility since August. Sony refuses to update the firmware in my S590, and Hulu has moved on without them . The last Sony network firmware update for this unit was about two years ago. I lay all  this at Sony's feet....pure arrogance. They deprecate Hulu in order to elevate their own content and stream network. That's what the Hulu tech support guy chatted me last night...  Sony had every opportunity to stay current with Hulu but chose not to. I can only presume it was to sell newer web-smart hardware. Ain't gonna happen. The BDP-S590 was at best a very marginal internet player, with frequent connectivity issues . It's WiFi was terrible so I had to run 50 feet of ethernet cable to it. The only other reason I kept the unit was it had a front panel USB jack for playing media. But losing Hulu is a dealbreaker for me

Now I will be buying a new internet stream device to get back current with Hulu. it will NOT be a Sony unit.  This is precisely how you lose customers.

Oh by the way, Sony. I joined Amazon Prime about a year ago, three years after buying the S590. Amazon Prime video works fantastically.

Very strange.....I have the same model, but I can get HULU fine. I also have a newer Sony Smart TV and the user interface on that HULU app is much better. I rarely use my BDP-S590 player anymore.

Re: Hulu no longer supported on my Sony Blu-Ray player , regrettably

Not all of Hulu Plus is dysfunctional for me, just most of it. NONE of the shows I subscribe to are available. Hulu told me they dropped " Queue/Profile" 2 years ago and replaced it with "Watchlist". My Sony S590 still shows Queue. No software or firmware update from Sony for almost two years. Everybody else's apps still work. I'll be buying a Samsung smart player very soon.

Re: Hulu no longer supported on my Sony Blu-Ray player , regrettably

Ran into the same problem with my BDP-S570. Most content on Hulu seemed to work fine, but "Marvel's Runaways" would not show the Episodes in the Queue, just the Clips, regardless of how I subscribed. And if I tried to watch an ep that I had watched on my computer via the History, it (and any Clips I chose) threw a Reference Code 300 error.

Hulu informed me that the device had become unsupported: "That device will continue to experience issues because it is no longer able to receive the most recent hulu updates due to firmware and software restrictions."

Disappointing, as I'd rather use the Blu-Ray than Chromecast it, but that's what I'll be stuck doing.

DH --- I'm curious when your Hulu nonsupport on your Sony began . I started having issues this past summer. I bought the Sony S590 in Feb.2013 and subscribed to Hulu immediately then . Just minor glitches along the way till just recently . Neither Sony nor Hulu wants to be accountable, but the issue is with Sony abandoning the product. Is that your experience?

It;s hard to say, as I am a new Hulu user. I first tried accessing it on my Sony player earlier this week. It continues to do just fine on Netflix and Amazon channels.
